#OOTD: Extreme Colourful Casual

It's Friday. No client meetings. I'm very casual working from home, running errands, walking Sam, and going out to casual supper with friends tonight. This is what I'm wearing, and everything is on foot. No driving.

YES, I wear velvet casually, because why not!

It's wet, windy, very grey, cold, and dismal. Bundled up, and creating my own sunshine in happy brights!

I AM LOVING ALL MY PANTS, and have finally successfully reduced jeans-wearing now that I have a great capsule of non-denim bottoms. It took a while.

This is a good example of how I mix very old with very new, and how the items work seamlessly together *to me* because I have a high affinity for colour mixing. It makes adding new colours to my wardrobe very easy, and I don't stress about orphaned colours.

Pink Joseph coat is 8 years old and one of the most luxe items in my wardrobe. It's impeccable and has held up very well. It will not date. Orange pullover is 3 years old and as impeccable (thank you COS). Mustard velvet pants are last season and altered to fit. Gorgeous quality (thank you Boden). Pink bag and mustard sneakers are new this year. Kate Spade and Converse - also really nice quality. I LOVE gorgeous quality.

You might not like the combination, and that's sooooo okay! I'm very happy, comfortable, relieved of stress, and soothed mixing things up this way because colours positively affect my mood. I have been dressing this way all my life - (thank you Benetton in the '80s!) - so it's a natural fit. You might be very different in this regard, and I celebrate the palette that makes you happy with you too :)

#authenticstyle

Light in my bedroom is bad. Pic #8 is more what the colours are like in person.

Hair is curled today. I'm getting good with the curling iron. Have a lovely and peaceful weekend, Fabbers. xo

Hej! You know what those are? Those are Isaac Mizrahi (sp?) colours! Totally jazzed! :D I love him. I think he’s one of the best.

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Really, Rachy! NICE. But you know, Isaac copied Benetton :)

  • JAileen replied 4 years ago

Wow!!! I love all the colors piled on like this.

  • rachylou replied 4 years ago

Did he? I like his thoughts on design. I like to listen to him.

  • Tanya replied 4 years ago

Super happy and totally you!  Enjoy your supper and weekend.

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

    Rachy, I'm joking around :)

    Tanya and Janet, thank you!

Tanya, you've known me a long time, and extra fab that you think that.

  • Katerina replied 4 years ago

Wow! Very beautiful! I LOVE the happy colors, you look gorgeous. The coat is fantastic - what a wonderful statement classic. I also love how you match your footwear with the trousers, I loved it also when you wore the red booties with your red trousers the other day. Very interesting - I will try to copy that :-)
I also love to mix colors as I feel and I wear bright colors throughout different seasons. Because of my coloring, I usually ground my colors with black or dark navy somewhere in my outfit. I would love a coat like yours and all these colors too!

  • DonnaF replied 4 years ago

Love it! Very Benetton. Despite all my grays and blacks, I would wear all those colors together—if I were to start wearing color lol.

  • replied 4 years ago

Happy sunset colors :) And I love the mustard yellow on you!

  • cindysmith replied 4 years ago

I'm in love with this outfit! And I still think little Sam is the best accessory ever LOL

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Katerina, how gracious you are. Thank you so much! It's fun to match colourful footwear to bottoms :) You ground your own outfits with black flawlessly, and it suits your colouring beautifully.

Suntiger, sunset colours just for you.

    Donna F, go Team Benetton.

Cindy, of course Sam is best!

LOVE it so much that we are seeing more of your outfits again. We don't need sophisticated photo shoots, this is perfect for us! You look fantastic, exuberant, and full of energy.

  • Suz replied 4 years ago

So amazing, Angie, and PERFECT for this blustery cold rainy dark day! It makes me smile to see these vivid brights together and I understand completely why you are drawn to them!

  • Staysfit replied 4 years ago

Angie, bright sunny colors complement your coloring, add cheer and reflect your positive energy.  I have learned so much from seeing how you manage your wardrobe. I like that you choose classic, carefully curated pieces, that work well together. Its nice that pieces you purchased 8 years ago are being used again with joy.

  • Karie replied 4 years ago

I love all the color mixing! I seem to never know how to mix colors, and you have given me a lot of inspiration.

  • Runcarla replied 4 years ago

Simple solids that are anything but simple!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 years ago

Wow, fantastic color mix! You wear these brights so, so, well, Angie. You are radiant. I love your necklace combo, too.

  • kellygirl replied 4 years ago

Angie you look delightful in those brights! What a breath of fresh air you are. I’m inspired!!

Such a lovely combination of bright colors, perfect for a dreary, cold day.

  • Style Fan replied 4 years ago

Gorgeous colour combo.  That coat is beautiful.

  • Mirjana replied 4 years ago

Extraordinary like usual, you are Queen of color mixing. You look terrific.

  • kkards replied 4 years ago

these colors give me such late 80s/early 90s happiness....while i don't wear these colors all together any more, i do appreciate them on others...

  • Theodora replied 4 years ago

I love, love, love this!  So happy and joyful!  You are an inspiration, Angie!

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

My word. You’re all so nice. Thank you!

Cardiff Girl, I can see you in my pink coat.

    Christina and Theodora :)

Bijou, Sam is the only neutral, I guess! And steals the show like he should.

Helena, HAH. That’s great! Really old pic - and four pairs of specs ago. Fun that you can remember that!

bonnie, Karie, Carla, Erin, Rain B, Style Fan and Mirjana you are lovely, and I appreciate the compliments.

Cee, I’m leaving the rest of the grey to Bat Sam.

Chouette22, what a sweet thing to say. I’m smiling.

Suz, thanks for getting it, especially in the light of our PNW weather. HIGH FIVE.

Staysfit, WOW. That’s high praise, and awfully gracious. Thank you :)

Firecracker and Kelly, your cheerleading and enthusiasm bring joy. Hugs!

    kkards, wooohooooo. Go Team ‘80s.

  • Roxanna replied 4 years ago

I adore it - but most of all I adore how you have been hitting the message of wearing what makes each of us happy. It's such an important and against-the-current message and today's Instagram world.

And thank you for your post on Friday - it made me believe that even with my body type, I can throw figure flattery to the wind sometimes and try something new! Love your message and your positivity, Angie.

  • Janet replied 4 years ago

    How fun!

You know, this just brings home to me how totally individual color style is. I would feel utterly ridiculous (i.e. way too conspicuous, and all the wrong colors for me) in these ensembles, but you look smashing!

  • Chris987 replied 4 years ago

I'll echo Roxanna...the bright colors are lovely but what's even more important is the message of wearing colors that make you happy no matter what anyone else's preferences are. "Love your message and your positivity Angie".

  • replied 4 years ago

Angie, you've gone too far this time!  Don't try to commit any crimes while wearing this!

Just kidding, of course!  The colors are perfect for you, and I can tell you are very happy to be wearing them.  How can you not have a wonderful day in such lovely colors?

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Roxanna and Chris, what a gracious and lovely thing to say. Thank you so much! I'm smiling :)

Janet, personalizing your authentic style is what it's all about. It's a beautiful thing.

Xtabay, you made me laugh, and feel great. Thank you.

  • Jaime replied 4 years ago

I cannot imagine anyone else looking as fun and elegant in these colors as you Angie. Two qualities that are hard enough to achieve in isolation and are truly rare to see together. Even in your crazy poses you are graceful, with perfect posture and a sparkling smile. You are a beautiful role model!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

    HOT, HOT, HOT!

  • Gigi replied 4 years ago

I'm dying over here! That combination of colors is just so fun!

    Hair is definitely on point!

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Jaime, thank you for your ongoing awfully kind and delightful comments. You make me blush!

    Joy, :)

Gigi, you are sweet. Thank you!

  • Gail replied 4 years ago

Really enjoy seeing the bright colors you look fantastic in them. I'm down in the doldrums and  they're cheering me up today .

  • unfrumped replied 4 years ago

    Wow!
I agree with all the happy color comments.

But I also think there’s a great lesson here that’s kind of aha! for me about how tailored style, fit and fabric quality SUPPORT more aggressive color mixing that might not come across well in very casual or less well- fitting items. I’m not after the same color mixing as this , for my coloring, but I do like to think of trying a little more aggressive or interesting combos and re-mixing wardrobe without being too inhibited by conventions on color combinations.

Maybe it’s kind the the opposite of, black and gray can manage to make lesser or more casual items look more upscale.
    Or maybe that’s all stereotypes.
Anyway I think this was a helpful lesson!

  • DeAnna replied 4 years ago

All the happy colors just look wonderful on you. I have been wearing black and gray for so long, because black makes you look thinner, and i really hate it. So this year because of all your happy colors, I'm buying mustard and hot pink and red. Love the color!

  • AviaMariah replied 4 years ago

Your outfit makes me happy just looking at it!  I'm feeling inspired!!

  • RobinF replied 4 years ago

You do the brights so well! I am with Janet, I would feel ridiculous in this combination of colors (and waaaay too conspicuous) but I love seeing them on you!

  • Karen replied 4 years ago

Hi Angie and all the lovely ladies on the group!
I have been following you quietly for a while but could not resist this outfit... it's AMAZING!!! a ray of sunshine. You are so inspiring, Angie. Thank you!!!

  • Scarlet replied 4 years ago

What a happy happy happy outfit. You would make me smile if I saw you on the street.

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Gail, happy to cheer you up, and hope you’re feeling better.

Unfrumped, interesting analogy! Glad this was helpful.

    DeAnna and Scarlet, happy dance!

    AviaMariah, glad you’re inspired.

    Robin F, :)

Karen, how sweet of you to chime in, and welcome!

  • replied 4 years ago

Angie that outfit is so unique and bold and it suits you well. You mentioned the lighting wasn’t the best for the photo, you ARE the lighting bold and bright :)
