WIWs: Classics and Trends

Had a cooler start to the Seattle week. Busted out some blue and pink lightweight jeans instead of my usual one of 3 Summer outfit formulas. Hot again today - so I'm back in a summery co-ord!

Outfit #1 - Equestrian-Lite

RL horsey-blouse with blue BF jeans, cognac support act, and orange bag. New cognac NAS mules! Super comfy and an unexpected wildcard purchase. Had an old belt to match. THIS is the right brown for my footwear and accessories. Orange-y brown :) New initial necklace in action.

Outfit #2 - Preppy- Lite

Navy and cream striped cotton sweater with a webbing belt to match. Pale pink horseshoe jeans with pink specs and bag to match. Cream loafers are an essential, and the denim jacket went on in the morning.

New Classics (as Ralph Lauren calls them!) one day, and Playful the next. Everyday outfits for work, play, and my regular city life, which is  busy :)

Thanks for looking. xo

I love a super sleek mule, and the suede gives it textural interest. They are perfect on you. And WOW do I love the stark stripe with the blush jeans. So good!

  • Dee replied 4 months ago

Wonderful updated classic combos. Fresh, fun and as always well coordinated. Horsey combo is so stylishly relaxed with lightwash BF jeans and mules. Love that striped belt with the striped top too.

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Roberta, the suede of the mule amps up the comfort level too! Stripes are versatile :) Thanks for the kind words!

Dee, I have an affection for the classics. RL does them most suited to my sartorial preferences. The striped match is fortuitous! Appreciate the compliments.

Outfit 1--I am getting such a Laurel Canyon vibe--I like it. I think it's the uber-American faded jeans with the faded leather.

Outfit 2--love the pink bag on pink jeans! I feel like if I wore that, I would have a spring in my step.

  • Mirjana replied 4 months ago

Wonderful blouse with jeans, love, love so much. You hair is very nic , romantic. I also like striped outfit, great classic but on modern way. You look stunning Angie.

  • Laura replied 4 months ago

Preppy Lite sent me rocketing up to Cloud 9! Pink balloon jeans and stripes. Now that’s my kind of preppy! And the equestrian blouse brings happy memories. Wonderful, wonderful outfits!

  • Kyle replied 4 months ago

The mules! They are so new and fresh for you, and fab with the belt and blouse. Then, your next outfit with both a striped top and striped belt? Doubly chic! You’re ready for the next RL catalog.

  • Lisa replied 4 months ago

I love how your new NAS items seamlessly integrate into your wardrobe. And how fun you can sport things right away!

Of course, the equestrian inspired look is my favorite. :) The new mules pair so well with that blouse. Simply superb!

The horseshoe shape jeans are such a fun shape and really jazz up the classic striped top and jeans formula. They are such a great item in your wardrobe!

*waving to my stripe belt twin*

And the lighting in your loft is fantastic for WIW photos!

  • Janet replied 4 months ago

Super looks! Your new loft seems to have a great photo spot for you!

You are reminding me that many years ago I had a pair of absolutely perfect-fitting suede mules that looked a lot like yours — in that same cognac color. I wore them only occasionally, as they were not a color I wore much at the time, and styling them was always a challenge. They sat unworn a lot, and I finally gave them away. I wish I had them now!

I love those new Rag & Bone jeans. I have the featherweight wide legs but darn if you are not making me want that more boyfriend-y cut too!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 4 months ago

Gorgeous all around! I love the striped top and belt together--dynamite! And pale pink instead of cream bottoms add a fun twist. I love outfit 1 even more though; the equestrian inspired blouse is fantastic on you, and perfect with the layered necklaces.

  • Irina replied 4 months ago

    Fab!
I love how your belly matches the top in the outfit #2, which is my favorite.

    Your hair looks gorgeous!

  • Ket replied 4 months ago

Those mules are terrific!! I love all of the fun here!

  • Helena replied 4 months ago

Love these Angie ... Great colours! I've noticed rolled jeans more lately after seeing it barely at all for a few seasons ... Is this a shift back to this being more common? I always love that look!

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Thanks, everyone. Fascinating how faves come through!

Carol, had to google "Laurel Canyon" - and you had me with Christian Bale! I see what you see. Faded jeans with faded leather IS very American. Although I'm not American, the vibe is part of the RL brand, which I love ;)

Mirjana, high fiving your classic sensibilities! Thanks for your always sweet and kind words.

Laura, your positive energy puts me in a good mood! So do fond memories :)

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Kyle, blushing at your kind words! (Hope you find some fab mules too). Since RL is the one company in the US I'd like to work for - that's high praise :)

Lisa, waving back at my belt twin! And equestrian sisters unite! (Of course, #1 is your fave :) ) YES to amping up a classic top with on trend or fashion forward bottoms. Belts help too. That's my thing! (Lucky to be back in our loft with perfect light).

Janet, your ex-mules sound fab! Wish you still had them too. HIGHLY recommend the featherweight Rag 'n Bone BF jeans! Size down. And yes - outstanding light here!

  • unfrumped replied 4 months ago

Both outfits are plonk- worthy. Effortlessly coordinated & contrasted.

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Thanks, Ket! Earth tones make you smile.

Irina, think you might mean belt instead of belly - although maybe I'll start a belly-and-top matching trend ;) Thanks for the hair love!

Sharan, such care and kindness with your observations as always. It's quite touching! Thought you might prefer outfit #2 rather than #1, so aren't you full of fab surprises. Appreciate you!

Helena, thanks! Yes, there is a slight shift to bringing back rolled cuffs - not that it ever went away, though. Ralph Lauren continued to showcase rolled cut jeans and pants, big time. On ROOMIER silhouettes. New Classics - as they call them. I like to roll the hems of my fluid pleated chinos too. Fably '80s!

  • LJP replied 4 months ago

I'm intrigued by the proliferation of lightweight drapey denim right now- your R&B ones look really great!  These are two really pretty Angie looks - and I especially love that striped sweater and matching belt combo - so you and so striking !

  • Jaime replied 4 months ago

So glad you are happily back in your loft and able to treat us to more outfit pics Angie. I admire how you manage to keep your personal style sauce as you play through different moods and silhouettes. And I might have succumb to those mules (but it will be a long time before I actually see them).

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Unfrumped, thanks for the chuckle and compliments :)

LJP, YES! I highly recommend lightweight drapey denim. Both pairs of jeans here are just that, and quite a new thing. Breezy and covered! Appreciate the kind words :)

Jaime,  "personal style sauce" is an awesome expression! Happy to smother my outfits in it. And excited we'll be mule twins!

  • Style Fan replied 4 months ago

Angie and Jimi!  :)  I have always loved that picture.
Lightweight draped denim sounds perfect for warmer weather.  Your loft has amazing light.

  • Cookie replied 4 months ago

I particularly like how the pink pants look with the denim jacket.

  • aloha emily replied 4 months ago

These are beautiful!! So fresh and polished!

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Ooh, so much fun! First of all, it's amazing how fresh the BF jeans are with your new mules and classic horsey shirt! What a fantastic outfit. I really do love the mules and hope that they will become available in more colours at some point. I can easily see adding a pair of these myself in the right colour or neutral. And yes! They are the perfect warm toned light brown for you.

Love the pink balloon pants. Trendy bottoms take it way beyond preppy and into Angie personal style territory. Plus, the matching bag!

  • Irina replied 4 months ago

Angie, LOL. Autocorrect and rushing out the door is never a good combination!

  • Sal replied 4 months ago

Awesome Angie outfits.  Love them both on you.  A masterclass in mixing old and new.

  • Star (Lise) replied 4 months ago

Fab outfits. The first silhouette is totally for me. The new mules look awesome, especially with the light denim. Love the old belt and how well it matches.

  • Jenni NZ replied 4 months ago

I’m just awed by how soft and pretty your hair looks especially in the close-up in pic 5. I did love your previous pixie (a few years back now, I realise) but maybe I like this even more.
I know you’re not into Kibbe but I might now fall down more rabbit holes wondering what Kibbe image identity you are?!

  • Sisi replied 4 months ago

I like the colors and the silhouettes of these two outfits. The pale browns of # 1 suit your complexion and hair very well. Beautiful mules!  In # 2 you look like a teenager ! Very pretty with your hair pulled back and in the iconic marine tee. Little Jo (is it she?) as always is perfectly put together and complements the looks. :)

  • Lynne replied 4 months ago

I adore your horse-themed blouse, Angie; the colours are divine on you!

  • Olive Green replied 4 months ago

Strikingly pretty outfits. Accessories so integral to your look, and you have the best collection.

  • Aurore replied 4 months ago

Very nice, sleek outfits! I really love how the orange bag with #1 makes the whole outfit pop.

I'm a big fan of classics as RL makes them, and I'm also considering this shirt - so special thanks for the food-for-thought on how I could style it!

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

    Thanks, everyone!

Style Fan, that's a painting I had commissioned for Greg's 50th. One of our faves.

    Cookie, denim on denim, FTW!

Thanks for the kind words Emily and Sal! High praise, and I'm smiling.

Suz, I can see you sport similar mules! That low heel is you.  As for BF jeans, after not wearing them for years - I'm back to wearing them and have two pairs! Nice to change things up! Appreciate the kind compliments, and fun outfit analysis :)

    Irina, sodding autocorrect ;)

Lise, outfit #1's palette is great with your hair!

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Jenni, thanks for the hair love! Although I'm not into Kibbe, feel free to go down the rabbit holes for me ;)

Sisi, earthy light browns with creams work well with my dark blonde hair  these days - bonus! Very much 55, and appreciate the kind compliments! That's tiny Jo, who is a well groomed little tomboy ;)

Lynne, thank you! I'm pretty much sold if it's horsey ;)

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Olive Green, what a nice thing to say, thank you :)

Aurore, Dutch orange FTW! Ralph Lauren Style Sisters unite! Their interpretations of iconic new classics have my heart, and the quality is gorgeous! I'm thrilled to fill my wardrobe with them over time. The horsey connection is a big draw for me too.

  • kkards replied 4 months ago

Be still my matchy matchy heart.

Pink pants/pink bag and striped sweater and belt, in one outfit!   Omg, so good.  Anding to my fashion goals.

The preppiness of the equine blouse is fab as well.

  • lyn67 replied 4 months ago

Love your earthy lite outfits here, Angie-done your way teamed with horse themes and your signiture brights. Particulary love those mules, but for me they are rather fawn (isn't cognac something darker and more intense?).I couldn't comment in real time in the other thread about your freturned brown NAS boots but agree this is indeed your shade of browns for shoes. Love the cream loafers, too-but that was obvious for You. (I also just bought on sale from Zara some similar but plain -no  embelishment other than a small vertical seam on the toe box- and love them!). Oh, and hair is fab and sooo long!!!:-)

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

kkards, thanks for making me laugh - and for the kind words!

Lyn67, fawn works too! Thanks for the lovely compliments, and enjoy your new cream loafers :)

  • Carol replied 4 months ago

Angie--yes, and it is a neighborhood in LA, too. But you probably caught that. All in all, a very Southwestern look--just bring your sunscreen. Or not, if you want the full effect!
I thought you were from here, moved away and came back. But I guess I'm wrong. English? British? Canadian?

  • RobinF replied 4 months ago

I didn't see this post! Love those mules in action! They are perfect! And the balloon jeans are so fun on you. Great outfits all around.

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Thanks, RobinF! Lovely to see you chime in!

Carol, I'm Dutch, and an EU National. I hold Dutch citizenship, (from The Netherlands). I am fluent in Dutch and English. I do not hold US citizenship. I grew up in British Hong Kong. Have also lived in Cape Town and France. Now I live in the US - and only in Seattle ;) Been to LA many times! Going again in Sept to see Oasis in concert :)

  • April replied 4 months ago

Ooh - Oasis. Holding thumbs for you that Liam and Noel don't savage each other and cancel the rest of the tour! They won't.

Thank goodness the heel on those mules is now out of my zone. Suede mules were not on my must-have list and I should NOT be looking for an excuse to put them there.

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

April, hope history does not repeat itself. The Oasis concert in London last week was epic! They're only playing in three US locations. CA is one of them. They have to keep the potential for feuding and canceling to a minimum ;)
