WIW: Sharp Shouldered & Suited

With lots of softness and a '70s flavour :)

  • Colour inspiration is from a dear client who was inspired by Trinny Woodall!
  • I wear my burgundy suit A LOT. In different ways. LOVE THE FIT AND QUALITY! Flared pants and shorter blazer = WINNER for me. I wish I had the same suit in a plaid or sour bright.
  • Wear the suit to work with clients. It's a VERY easy and comfy outfit!
  • 10 year old citron turtleneck. Not a hint of pilling! Wish J.Crew made things the way they used to......
  • I also wear the suit pants as separates. Perfect colour match with a '70s sharp shouldered pleather jacket that cost me $40 a few years ago, and the quality is superb!
  • Wore the '70s jacket with the pants and citron support act to a fancier birthday party last week.
  • Wear my old citron cocoon coat over suits and jackets quite a bit. My favourite coat of all time! It's cold on foot outside and I need to wrap up!
  • Citron Pom Pom crossbody because I must be hands-free, and I like to match.
  • White boots....well....because it's my thing....
  • Wavy hair doing its own soft thing.
  • Sam and Jo always curious and close-by!

Hubs Greg does NOT like puffy sleeves. If I showed him this '70s jacket off my body - he would have discouraged me from trying it. But as soon as I put it on - he loved it! Now I only show Greg puffy sleeved items ON MY BODY :)

Thanks for looking! xo

    wow!

Wow!  You look spectacular!   I would have never thought of putting those two colors together, yet they look amazing on you.  I have the same suit, and have worn in much more predictable way: with white, blush, pale blue, and browns. ** Waving to Sam & Jo**.

  • Bonnie replied 1 year ago

Love your burgundy and citron outfits! Your legs look a mile long in those flare pants.

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

    Joy, :)

    bonnie,
it's the high rise and tucked top that makes my legs look long

Tanya, my suit twin. Love that, and Sam and Jo are send snuggles back :)

I don’t pick up on silouhette’s so well, but colours have resonance for me, and I love  colourful outfits like this that are full of positive energy.  Dynamic and dynamite!

  • Jaime replied 1 year ago

Gasp! I can't say this is one of my favorites of yours, only because I feel that list is already too long to be meaningful. These combinations are truly awesome. Love the flared silhouette (I actually pulled out a very old denim suit and wore the flared jeans yesterday!). The color combination is amazing - yes it does remind me of Trinny but it is also very Angie! Greg is quite right to only appreciate your jacket when it is properly styled on you :) . Jo and Sam may not match but they always go!

  • Suz replied 1 year ago

    Stunning!! WOW!

I love this so much. What a fun and entirely unexpected colour combo -- but it works amazingly well! Love every rendition. The flares are amazing on you -- your legs look a hundred miles long. So interesting that Greg does not like the idea of puffy sleeves but likes them on you. It makes sense, in a way -- they do seem a bit much off a body. Sort of standing up there on their own the way they do...

    I. can't believe the pleather jacket is such a great match. Brilliant shopping and wardrobe management over the years.

  • LJP replied 1 year ago

This is all just fabulous.  What a great package of pieces that work together so well.  Wish I had your talent for this!

  • Brooklyn replied 1 year ago

Drop dead gorgeous!!! I can see the Trinny everything-looks-better-with-neon influence. Your hair looks fab too.

I think this suit is my favourite outfit of yours. And the pinstripe suit. Do you still have that?

  • Bijou replied 1 year ago

    I die!

I wish VB did more of these suits for you as well - it is stunning on you and a fabulous colour combination with the citron.

  • MsMaven replied 1 year ago

Gorgeous suit and wow! the color combination is so great on you.

Paging through NYT fashion section this morning--I saw very sharp-shouldered suit jackets.

  • AJ replied 1 year ago

The pleather jacket combination makes me swoon!!
Love the wavy hair, but I am biased in that department. :)
Angie, if you ever start your modeling agency, you should be the star talent!

  • jussie replied 1 year ago

You look amazing. Very beautiful and sharp.

  • slim cat replied 1 year ago

    Gorgeous looks - just wow!

  • anchie replied 1 year ago

Wow, you look fantastic in this, your legs look miles long. Can’t decide if I like better suit or leather jacket. I may steal the idea for color combination:)

  • Olive Green replied 1 year ago

Your hair looks perfect. Soft and happy and the colour is warm.
The pleather jacket is just right with this, the shoulders seem to frame your face.
The dang dogs are so cute.

  • bella replied 1 year ago

Gorgeous suit and suits you to a T.
I used to own a burgundy pleather jacket in the 2000s and loved it to pieces! Yours is looking fabulously 70s. :)

  • Vildy replied 1 year ago

Love how you have both the sharp and puff shoulder options to extend this great look.

  • Dee replied 1 year ago

Stop it Angie! Its just TOO much Fabness!!
    My goodness, I adore everything!

  • ChristelJ replied 1 year ago

Two of my favorites together, the puffed sleeves and the flares, sublime! Modern 70s the way you do it is fantastic. I also appreciate the longevity of some of your items.

  • replied 1 year ago

Love that suit on you- and what a great color combo!

  • April replied 1 year ago

Chuckling at the wisdom of your "husband husbandry".

    Smashing outfit!

  • Irina replied 1 year ago

Looks fantastic, Angie. And what an unexpected color combination!
    It makes burgundy look fresh!

  • RobinF replied 1 year ago

Wow, gorgeous! I love that puffed shoulder jacket! It is like two suits in one!

  • unfrumped replied 1 year ago

    Super fab!
I can’t believe how the pleather jacket matches.

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

WOW! Thank you for the awfully kind and generous words. I'm blushing :)

Adore that even if the colour combination is not your thing, that you can appreciate it on others who enjoy wearing it with a happy heart. Like me.

I don't have long legs. They are regular length. Yet when I wear flares with a high rise and tucked top - my legs extend, even in a one inch heel. It's visual trickery!

YES! The pleather jacket was a very lucky perfect colour match. I LOVE that little jacket :)

Lucky to find a VB suit with a short jacket. 99% are long, and not my preference.

Brooklyn, to answer your question I passed on the pinstripe burgundy suit. This one has replaced it, and then some. There is only room for one burgundy suit!

Fun to hear I have team mates on Team '70s, Team Flares, Team Puffy Sleeves, Team Shorter Jackets, Team Burgundy, Team Pleather Jackets, and Team Pants Suit!

I'll be back! I have a busy week.

  • rachylou replied 1 year ago

I feel a need to break into your house. Scale your building like Spiderman. Hehe, KAPOW Looks! :D

  • kkards replied 1 year ago

Love the suit!  And the leather jacket with it is inspired.  I’m able to appreciate the yellow, even if I’m not quite a fan, sorry.

  • CarolS replied 1 year ago

Wow! I love burgundy with orange but hadn't really considered it with yellow. You carry off the look beautifully!

I don't have a burgundy topper, but you inspire me to see if I can pull something similar together with my burgundy pleather pants and bright yellow sweater....

  • Cardiff girl replied 1 year ago

Yes this is a much loved colour combo by Trinny .You have done it well and l have to say l was struck by how pretty your hair is looking now .l only ever show the Hubbie clothes on my body and on my way out the door!Hes no good at visualising outfits,he has to see clothes in context, bless!

  • Sal replied 1 year ago

    Gorgeous Angie!

  • Inge replied 1 year ago

The burgundy and citron is just such a fantastic colour combo, Angie!! Looooove it!!
And that suit is absolute perfection on you!
    Very clever puff sleeve strategy:-)))

  • Roberta replied 1 year ago

Just love this! The burgundy is such a good foil for your favorite brights. I could see the right Tiffany-ish blue with this suit too, or maybe a pale green? Dutch orange?

    Really inspiring.  :-)

  • Helena replied 1 year ago

    Stunningly gorgeous!

  • Kate replied 1 year ago

Stunning color combo and beautiful on you in all iterations.

  • K. Period. replied 1 year ago

Absolutely beautiful! I love the energy of that color combo.  It is so unexpected and bright and fun! Love love love!

  • Laura replied 1 year ago

Color me completely blown away by this ensemble! What a stellar color combination and the silhouette is smashing on you! This is beyond a 10 out of 10. It’s one million out of 10!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 1 year ago

Wow, dynamite Angie! That suit jacket is certainly the perfect length for you. And the matching puff-sleeve pleather jacket! It does look a world better on you than off--well done, trying it. Photo 12 melts my heart!

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

Oh my word! Thanks so much, everyone! Appreciate the gracious compliments.

Roberta, I wear the burgundy suit with orange, red, shocking pink, and turquoise too!

K.Period, thanks for the colour inspiration, and fably fun to be twinsies with you :)

Sharan, Sam and Jo send snuggles!

    Laura,I've fainted.....

  • Eliza replied 1 year ago

I am smiling just looking at those photos! Love the utter Angie-ness of each look, the punchy accessories, and wow to the hair, too. It is a wonderful tutorial on the power of choosing colors deliberately and repeating them in an outfit. Head turning polish; signature style.

  • MsMaven replied 1 year ago

Quick look at St. Laurent show: Those shoulders are broad--I mean really exaggeratingly broad. and sharp angles. My guess is women who can afford these coats and and jackets aren't going to be riding the subway or train! I like Angie's version much better.

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

Eliza, such high praise! Thank you.

    MsMaven, :)

  • quietloud replied 1 year ago

Wow, the color combination is fantastic, so inspirational! And those trousers are AMAZING!!!

  • Jules replied 1 year ago

I keep coming back to these photos! Such a stunning colour combo, and amazing deal on the leather jacket.

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

    Thanks so much! :)

  • Zaeobi replied 1 year ago

What a great Trinny yellow combo! I'm seeing more yellow in general these days - so glad it's making a retail resurgence!

Am I right in thinking the turtleneck is ribbed in the sleeves but not the body? I find ribbing can 'warp' a little over the bust (on me), so that's a brilliant solution to that issue!

  • JP replied 1 year ago

WOW! Smashing outfits. I love it with the puffy sleeve jacket even more.
The cream footwear works and I wouldn't have thought of that color for shoes I. These outfits.

  • Jenni NZ replied 1 year ago

These outfits are even more incredible than your usual. I agree on how long your legs look, that was the first thing I saw. Stunning colour scheme.

  • aloha emily replied 1 year ago

Gorgeous!! I love the colors and proportions!!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 1 year ago

This is a unique color combination and works so well. Plus, your legs look a mile long!

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

Thanks so much, everyone! Appreciate the kind words.

YES! Flares at perfect pant lengths with a tucked top and high rise make my legs look really long. Fab for a change :)

Zaeobi, good observation, and dead right!

  • lyn67 replied 1 year ago

You styled burgundy in such  fresh way-love those tailored cuts, hair is fab, too!! Always delish to see your outfits, you are one of a kind for sure in your cheery style!!

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

Lyn67, thanks for making me smile!

  • BlueJay replied 1 year ago

Never in a million years would I have thought to put burgundy with citron together, but it totally works. (And that is why you are the stylist, not me!) :) I really love the pleather jacket at a shorter length with the pants, very cute! Your hair is looking great!

  • Angie replied 1 year ago

Thanks, Blue Jay! Appreciate the hair compliment too.
