WiWs: LOTS of Denim Skirt Action

It's finally mild enough to wear my new G-Star denim skirt, and I LOVE IT!

It's the best denim skirt I've ever had, and I've had many. Beautiful quality, fab white stitching, sustainably and ethically manufactured, fluidly A-line so that I can move around fast on errands with Sam in tow, and very comfy. It totally stays put and does not slide around because it fits well and has zero stretch! Greg remarked on how fab he thought it was too :)

I documented a little outfit creation session because there have been many skirt-outfit questions this year. Maybe these visuals will help, since none of the tops are tucked, apart from the first funnel neck which is semi-tucked.

Personally, I like shorter tops and toppers with skirts. Fits are fluid or very fluid:

  1. Short funnel neck (not a hoodie!)
  2. Short shirts with CURVED hems that add structure
  3. Polo top with a welt, or what others call a banded bottom, that hints at a waist
  4. Shorter toppers lengthen the leg line since I don't wear heels.

*Sneaker and loafer complement variations that work with the palettes of the outfits.

*Remix of old and new items ALWAYS. I make sure I can wear my new with my old because it gives me satisfaction. For example, the short neon coat is 9 years old. The Furlas are four and five years old.

* I wore the two funnel neck outfits today. Started off with the light blue, and moved to the neon because I needed more insulation. Very windy by the water!

Some personal observations:

  • No pearls or patterns for a change!
  • I feel very Dutch in these looks! Dutch G-Star plus blue/white combinations with practical shoes will do that for you.
  • My COVID pixie is becoming addictive. It's such an easy wash and go, although I know my look is softer and nicer with a long fringe that waves. But I love the convenience of this style, and might have to hold onto it for longer. Getting lazy with my hair ;)
  • We are expecting amazing Spring weather next week, so I'll be  wearing the non-topper versions then.

Jab #1 of Pfizer done. Jab #2 on April 28. No side effects other than a stiff arm for 36 hrs. Life is looking up.

Thanks for stopping by, and happy Friday! xo

    Excellent examples! Cute Sam!
I like the red outfit best xx

  • Runcarla replied 3 years ago

Love it all!  Congrats on getting jabbed.  How’s the fit on the white BR funnel neck?  Reviews say it runs snug in the arms...

  • Irina replied 3 years ago

WOW! Angie, what a fantastic skirt! You look wonderful, so elegant and effortless! Sam ai super cute!

Happy to see how well BR sweatshirt looks on you. I love it but it was not working for me. I sized down and bought Small and still had too much fabric around shoulders and neck. Fits you beautifully, though.

  • Minaminu replied 3 years ago

Super! So many outfits and fab ideas to style the denim skirt! As always, great energy and super cute Sam!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks, Jenni! The watermelon is refreshinf for Spring.

Carla, funnel neck runs snug in the LOWER arms, but I like that, actually. Stays put.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Irina, that is high praise. Thank you so much! Blast about the BR funnel neck :(

Minaminu, you are so lovely. Your always kind comments do not go unnoticed.

  • Jonesy replied 3 years ago

Beautiful, informative denim skirt lab! I love all of these! The funnel neck was made for you--I love how high the neck comes up, and how it seems to stay upright--I have a funnel neck sweatshirt but the funnel is sort of sad and floppy :(. And your fuzzy light blue jacket and sharp yellow DB jacket look so great layered over the funnel neck! Also really love the Comme de Garcons tops on you, buttoned all the way up--so fun how the red heart/white shirt combo picks up the red in your specs. The polo looks fab too, perfect with the skirt...

Is it possible that Sam is getting cuter? #15 with his enormous eyes is the CUTEST!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Jonesy, thank you for your gracious and thorough comment! WOW, to the high praise, and I'm blushing. And hope you find a funnel neck that stands up tall and proud like your gorgeous statuesque self!

......Sam is a natural model ;)

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Beautiful skirt and stylings. I like the simple lines of the skirt.

  • Kathie replied 3 years ago

So perfect for spring! I love the funnel neck with the neon. Such an unexpected combination, and so very much you. Sam is adorable as always. Is that a new painting in the background? I love how it matches your outfits. (Also, we'll have matching Pfizer vaccine dates! Yea for more vaccines!)

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    Joy, thanks :)

Kathie, good to see you chime in on YLF. That's an old painting - a gift from Greg by a local Seattle artist. And a big Pfizer high five!

  • replied 3 years ago

Such fun to look through these photos and absorb ideas . I’m not likely to ever wear a denim skirt again , but I appreciate the look on you . Are you not wearing your white booties this spring ?

I understand completely the temptation to stay with a short pixie and you’re lucky in being so pretty and slim that you can wear your hair like this ! I wish I could .

  • Jenn replied 3 years ago

You look vibrant and full of light, as always. I love this with the funnel neck, and it’s fun to see you looking a bit more casual in that outfit without the topper. I like the red too...sporty! And Sam is the best accessory.

We’re on nearly the same vaccine schedule. I got my first dose of Pfizer a week ago by driving to a nearby county with open eligibility and more ample supply than LA. Second shot is on the 25th!

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

Love the funnel neck and shirts with the hearts... brings a light heartedness to what could become somber preppy. Sam is looking precious have to mention :)

  • replied 3 years ago

This looks awesome on you! It looks so chic yet comfy that it nearly makes me want a long denim skirt. I have always avoided them because where I’m from (Lancaster PA aka Amish country), long denim skirts are worn almost exclusively by Mennonite gals. (Which my ancestors were, but probably prior to denim, ha!) Funny example of super-specific environmental influence. But if I saw the same look in a big city I would think it’s trendy, so maybe I could wear it if I travel.

  • Janet replied 3 years ago

Great outfits, all! The skirt certainly seems versatile for you. And of course Sam is just the cutest!

  • Sally replied 3 years ago

That is a really nice denim skirt.  I tried a denim skirt on the other day but because it had a raw edge, thought I wouldn't get a lot of wear in terms of versatility.   There are so many places you could wear that and I like the way it flares out a bit at the bottom.

  • Elle replied 3 years ago

Love all these combinations but my absolute favorite is the skirt with the watermelon top. So cheerful and fun.  And congratulations on getting your first shot!

  • Aquamarine replied 3 years ago

What a great skirt. Just perfect on you. LOVE it with the neon topper, and Sam is the perfect accessory.

I get my first Pfizer shot next week. I still can’t believe it’s my turn (I pre-registered at a mass-vax site in my state). Yay for science!

  • slim cat replied 3 years ago

You look better than the models - bright, invigorating outfits with your wonderful smile and the best assistant in the business - the cutest Sam!
Love all the looks and your fab pixie ( just got mine done too - so easy in the morning ;) ).

  • N replied 3 years ago

I love absolutely everything on you <3 how I wish I could find something that looks so great on me. I either feel completely frumpy or way too revealing in almost everything nowadays. Can't seem to get the balance right.

  • Liesbeth replied 3 years ago

Great looks! Quite sporty/preppy, no? Great idea to work with your color complements.

  • Cardiff girl replied 3 years ago

That skirt is a lovely shape in you and of course you have styled it beautifully with your usual colourful aplomb.Sam looks suitably dashing too.

  • Star replied 3 years ago

Particularly love the red and white combo, and Sam. :)

  • ChristelJ replied 3 years ago

What a refined and elegant, yet sassy skirt! Enjoying seeing the untucked tops with it and how successful that pairing is. I really love your short hair, too.

  • RoseandJoan replied 3 years ago

Angie, these pics are an absolute joy to see, such fun.

I also like the skirt with your shorter tops, the Scotch and Soda collared knit with the skirt is the perfect nod to mod fashion.

  • replied 3 years ago

That yellow is so snappy and your styling with the button down takes me back to how I wore a denim midi in the 80s! I really enjoy the verve you express in your pics. It’s impossible not to smile.

  • Brooklyn replied 3 years ago

    Super cute!

    Congrats on the vax!

  • kkards replied 3 years ago

Well, this is making me think i need a denim skirt!
Re the pixie, while i like your longer cut, I’m loving this shorter version, it’s no fuss aesthetics just feel so perfect for the time we are in.

and can we talk about these photos, which just radiate with joy. Fun with fashion indeed

  • Staysfit replied 3 years ago

Wow Angie, I love all of these looks!  I am also thinking a longer length denim skirt might be on my shopping list!

  • Debbie replied 3 years ago

I absolutely love the watermelon with the skirt. That skirt is such a great spring/summer look. Sam is the cutest!
You look so happy and relaxed. Made my morning.
    Congratulations on the vaccine!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

WOW. Thank you all for the awfully kind words! I’m blushing and smiling. I hope that those who are interested in a denim skirt, find the perfect one.

Lisa P, you can absolutely wear your hair super short! Have you tried it? To answer your question, not a lot. I’m in hi-tops or sneakers most of the time. White and blush boots came out to play a few times though :)

Jenn, what a sweet thing to say, and high five to being vax samies!

Rachy and Liesbeth, YES to the Preppy and Sporty Luxe!

Gillian Pearl, super specific environmental norms are real, and the one you mentioned has come up before. Very interesting! We always have too listen to how we feel in an outfit….

Aquamarine, Sam says thank you, and happy jab day!

Slim Cat, that is high praise, and you very gracious. Go Team Easy Pixies! Yours is gorgeous.

N, Cardiff Girl, Sally, ChristelJ, Janet, Brooklyn, Elle, Star, thank you so much! I appreciate the compliments.

RoseandJoan, you made my day chiming in. Miss you! Hope you and the family are strong and safe.

Jenna, that’s sweet, and go Team ‘80s!

kkards, another awfully sweet thing to say, and thanks for the hair love!

Staysfit and Debbie, you’d rock denim skirts! Have fun finding them

  • unfrumped replied 3 years ago

    So versatile!
Also living the short watermelon top.
I have been keeping my eye out for shorter shirttail hemmed tops. Usually I need MORE length in my shirts, because of long torso and small size. But a boxier short style can be a way to have a flattering short untucked top for higher rises, if that makes sense.

  • cat2 replied 3 years ago

Love the skirt with the shorter toppers, red and citron.

  • Mirjana replied 3 years ago

I personally don't like denim skirt and I have not any, but I am impressed with your skirt. You look fabulous in every look. I love them all, absolutely gorgeous.
    Congratulations on the vaccine!.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Unfrumped, YES to that shorter shirt tail top!

Cat2, short tops are a sure thing with skirts.

Mirjana, thanks for the always gracious words :)

  • sarah replied 3 years ago

That skirt is amazingly perfect for you. Congratulations on finding it!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Sarah, how NICE to see you chime in! Hope you and the family are safe and strong :)

  • kellygirl replied 3 years ago

happy dance for the vaccination! I love every one of these. So vibrant and playful--just like you. Denim skirts and I don't really get along so I will enjoy this on you!

  • smittie replied 3 years ago

Beauty! So impressed with the funnel neck sweatshirt. Just dressy enough.
Didn’t know g-star was a Dutch brand. I must check it out.
Lovely S&S top. The collar looks fantastic.

  • replied 3 years ago

Angie, I think spring brings out the best in you!  You rock that denim skirt like nobody else.  Love how you've styled it, and made it work with things you already have.

  • JAileen replied 3 years ago

I love your skirt with the yellow jacket.  It’s so fresh and spring-like.

  • Bonnie replied 3 years ago

Every version is great. That skirt is so versatile and perfect for your wardrobe. Love the new tops, too.

  • Tanya replied 3 years ago

Sam steals the show, as always.  His super-wide eyes in #15 are ridiculously cute, I wonder what caused that expression.

Anyway, love all the looks with the skirt, thank you for the outfit lab.  It is really hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to, it would be with the cream sweatshirt and citron peacoat.

  • Jaime replied 3 years ago

So gorgeous and just the pop of energy and inspiration I need as I am getting my haircut this morning. Perhaps dramatically, we shall see ;) .
Anyway, I absolutely love these combination. Special love for the Commes de Garcon button ups, which fit you to perfection. As if they were tailored with you in mind. Luckily I remembered that I do not have a long graceful neck among other things!
And to top it off, you and Sam are the ultimate, beautiful mutual admiration society!

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 3 years ago

I love these looks, and the colors made me feel happy looking at them!

Your palette immediately put me in mind of boats and water, and I think it’s because the colors seem similar to yachting flag colors.

And bright springtime bulbs - tulips and freesias.

  • Bijou replied 3 years ago

SOOO glad you got the vaccination! Such fabulous news.

Angie, you look stunning and wow, I do love that pixie haircut. You have beautiful hair, so it is gorgeous longer, but the pixie highlights how absolutely beautiful your bone structure, eyes and skin are. Sam is the perfect double act and just as photogenic as his Mum.

  • Laura replied 3 years ago

30 photos of Angie living her best life and the biggest smile is plastered across my face. Love every single thing about you and your new jean skirt!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Oh, my word. You are all SO NICE. Thank you very much :)

Kelly, I’m sure you’d rock a denim skirt!

Smittie, G-Star and Scotch & Soda are Dutch! I hope you try out their stuff.

Xtabay, I LOVE Spring and Summer! Thanks for your gracious words.

JAileen and bonnie, you are lovely people, and you enrich this forum with your grace and confidence.

Tanya, YES! Sam steals the show! And I love that you mention that. I think you have a denim skirt too….

Jaime, that is extremely high praise. I’m excited about your new haircut! LOVE my Commes de Garcon Japanese shirts, They are indeed perfect for my style. The brand is on my radar. Good fit for me too.

Mary Beth, delightful palette associations. Water and Tulips, FTW!

Bijou, that’s soooo kind and generous. WOW. Many thanks.

Laura, you are a kind sweetheart! Hugs :)

  • Joyce B replied 3 years ago

You make your new denim skirt fun in all your outfit combinations. Sam makes them even more fun, of course :) .

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks, Joyce! It's lovely to see you chime in. Miss you around here :)

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Angie, I'm late here, but wanted to pop in and say you look absolutely gorgeous. Love the skirt -- it's fabulous and versatile -- and love the beautiful spring outfits. How amazing it looks with the citron jacket! Eye poppingly fun! I love them all, though. Wearable looks and a nice spring update. Also, I love the pixie.  You look great in any short hairstyle, that's my verdict.

  • Roxanna replied 3 years ago

Gosh, I hear you on the hair. Having polished and well groomed hair easily is addictive. I don't spend a lot of time on my hair, but when I have a shorter hairstyle and can just style it quickly after a workout and it looks great all day, is SO freeing, especially since I'm outdoors more in pandemic life and I hate my hair looking straggled and windblown. I do like you with slightly longer fringe but I say keep what you have for a while if it's working for you - it looks wonderful and sharp and chic! I plan to do the same when I can FINALLY have a haircut.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Suz, you are as kind and sweet as ever. Thank you!

Roxanna, thanks for the compliment. I hope you can get your hair cut soon! We've sooo had our fill of lockdown.....

  • Helena replied 3 years ago

Beautiful!! I've got such vaccine envy too :D

  • Karie replied 3 years ago

Gorgeous! I love a nice denim skirt. Sam is as dapper as ever too. And I’m with you on shorter hair being super easy to take care of, - I know my hair looks better a little longer, but the short length is just so easy and fuss free...

  • lyn67 replied 3 years ago

Where I was on Friday???-that used to be happy on it's own-so  I don't mind at all missing this thread as now you made my Tuesday happy,  today, LOL!!! Thank you Angie, these all are my kind of color pairings, complements and  matches for some happy color blocked looks! Big LOVE!!

  • replied 3 years ago

Congrats on the jab :) I like the skirt most with the fuzzy blue jacket but you have the best color complements!
    *pets the fuzzy jacket*

  • Zaeobi replied 3 years ago

Wonderful look! It feels very you, with the citron & mid wash but crisp denim. If they had one in a darker wash, I'd be all over it!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    Helena, you are so nice!

Lyn67, you always make me laugh. You are funny, gracious and charming, Thank you :)

Karie, you rock your short hair! Give Cosmo and Callie hugs from me.

Suntiger, thanks for making me smile :)

Zaeobi, I can see you rock this type of skirt! And thanks for the kind words.

  • JP replied 3 years ago

Beautiful outfits, Angie.  That skirt looks so good on you.  If I could wear that type of skirt it would be on it's way to me now, haha.  The colors make me so happy.  I need yellow sneakers!
    Sam is so cute.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks, JP. The skirt is really flattering, and maybe you should just try it! Or make it ;)
