WIWs: Browns, Baby! And "NEW" bag

Friend of mine said.... "I think you're going through a brown phase...", to which I replied - "Agreed!"

;)

Been adding browns to my wardrobe CAREFULLY over the last 4 years: solid toffee, whiskey, cognac, gingerbread, and patterned or colourblocked dark chocolate. Browns are SO MUCH better on me than black and grey! Glad I've recovered from wearing a brown school uniform.

I remix my browns with everything. Sour brights, whites, and blues. A seamless integration. Loving the refresh and mini style evolution. Feels dead right with my darker blonde hair.

Another friend of mine gave me her almost new and barely worn tomato red Mulberry tote because it wasn't working for her. My "new" red bag ended up in the best forever home. I LOVE IT! It's a neutral to me, and I swap out the straps.

The new chocolate Ralph Lauren aviator is an absolute workhorse. One of my best NAS purchases of all time.

New oversized cream '80s belt is fun to wear!

10 year old skinnies - (or slim straights) - feel awfully weird every time I wear them. Very form fitting, and I'm not used to it. The only reason I'm wearing these jeans is because the glitzy gold buttons make me smile! I'm a wide jeans and pants person at heart.

These are casual outfits. Note all the browns!!! I worked with a few very casual clients in some of these looks. The rest is WFH, and getting on with my usual busy doggie and city life.

Lots of older items, and a few new. Light is all over the place. It's that time of year.

Thanks for looking. xo

This is a great capsule, very "you" but new looking .  I can't quite wrap my head around fitted jeans anymore either, but these obviously are still very flattering and chic on you. Much more elevated than basic skinnies.  I particularly love the caramel sweater and red pant look - very fall-like yet almost festive too.  Beautiful colour of sweater for you.

  • Irina replied 2 weeks ago

Fabulous! #1-7 are my favorites but all the outfits are amazing. Lovely to see flared pants, something I don’t see worn here.

  • Carol replied 2 weeks ago

So cool. What I get from this for MYSELF is to mix statement pieces with statement pieces. I like the brown, but I am more excited by the red purse, and some of the things you have had a while. The brown RL aviator jacket with the cuffed jeans has such a vintage tomboy look--some jeans seem made for cuffing.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

LJP, thanks for the kind words! I know, right? Super slim pants are hard to wear when you're more comfy - emotionally and physically - in wide and very wide silhouettes. I feel more elegant in wide bottoms.. And I bat for Team Brown with you :)

Irina, thank you very much! Perhaps flared trousers are "my skinnies". What do you think? Interesting you don't see them in your neck of the woods.

Carol, "more can be more" too! I lean into boyish looks, as long as there is ample "pretty" in the look too. The red bag excites me too ;)

  • Runcarla replied 2 weeks ago

That aviator jacket is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!  I totally understand why you love it.  These are great outfits - aspirational and inspirational.  I’s so happy when you share your OOTD with us.  It motivates me to ‘up’ my casual outfit game.

  • LJP replied 2 weeks ago

Irina’s comment about flares are true . I haven’t seen them in real life here in years . They are a flattering cut on many women yet don’t seem to be offered at retail here at all . Same with boot cuts for that matter .

  • Dee replied 2 weeks ago

Ouu... that bomber jacket, soo... good! You had a similar red one before. Yep, those red flares and toffee sweater looked incredible together. I'm loving wide-legs too, yours look great with the striped zip-up.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Carla, that's high praise and I'm blushing. Thanks so much! :)

LPJ, interesting! You don't see bootcut jeans - (flared) - in retail either? They are worn here. In denim and trouser fabric. These red flares are quite old. Pre-pandemic. The rise is lower! But not too low. I enjoy them!

Dee, you are sooo lovely! Good memory. YES, I have an old red aviator-esque jacket too. Another workhorse! Go Team Wide Legs! I'm with you :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 2 weeks ago

Wow, wow, wow, Angie. A fantastic bunch of looks. I love your fun bright color combos punctuated by whites. The aviator jacket is amazing juxtaposed with your bright and modern classic pieces. I gotta say, outfit 9-11 sends me into orbit. I just love that toffee and red combo, the sleek trousers, pullover and booties, and topped by the aviator for an unexpected dose of toughness. Also, you are lucky to have a friend who would pass on a Mulberry bag, let alone one that is such a great find for you!

  • Suz replied 2 weeks ago

Fab outfits, Angie! Love them all. It's amazing how harmonious the toffee and whiskey tones are with your new hair. They are beautiful neutrals for you. They soften your brights just a bit and can be a bit less expected -- which seems like a style signature in itself. Wear the trends, yes...but wear them your way.

And the chocolate jacket (witih cream accents) is positively delicious! # 9 / 10/ 11 may be my absolute faves of this set, but hey, I have a weakness for red flares. :) Or any red pant, for that matter....

Or any red bag....that Mulberry is a beauty and right up my alley. You could carry almost anything in that. :)

    Still love those orange Colettes!

  • Bonnie replied 2 weeks ago

Love this post! The COH jeans looks so much better on you than the model. The aviator is fab on you. Changing the strap on the tote is a fun  way to change the look. Your casual boots, jeans, belt, sweater, jacket, and bag formula is mix and match perfect.

  • Brooklyn replied 2 weeks ago

Nos 9-11 sent me into orbit! I love how you mix colours. Your fabulousness knows no bounds.

  • Debbie replied 2 weeks ago

I love the red bag. It is wonderful. All of these outfits are fabulous on you. They are styled to perfection. Like Carla said it makes me want to elevate my looks.

  • slim cat replied 2 weeks ago

Great looks! Aviator jacket is so perfect for you ( love all the looks with it
;-) )! Your slim jeans with gold buttons is very elegant and timeless.
I love red flares - holiday special.
P.S. I never got over brown school uniform - but it was always not a flattering color on me ( it works better for my mom who has warmer skin tone and brighter green eyes :-) ).

  • Star (Lise) replied 2 weeks ago

Such a treat to see your WIWs! 9 is my absolute favourite. An unusual and fabulous colour pairing. I have decided those are your most flattering pants, if I may :). Next favourite is 20. Beautiful close up of you and cutie pie Jo.

  • pirouette replied 2 weeks ago

Lovely outfits especially the brown jacket in 19 and your brown bag in 15. It’s strange the way my eyes adjusted to seeing wide leg jeans everywhere. Now I think the skinnies look odd !!! Last year I would have thought the opposite.

  • Irina replied 2 weeks ago

Angie, you show a perfect example of how any cut bottoms can be styled in a contemporary, fashionable way. Well, you are the expert! :)

  • aloha emily replied 2 weeks ago

These are all so beautiful! I learn so much about color combinations and proportion by looking at your outfits. I especially like seeing your casual looks. Sometimes it feels like there is nothing between sweats and high fashion- I love seeing the polished and striking casual looks you create that are also comfortable and practical. Thank you!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 2 weeks ago

I love the way you’ve incorporated more of the brown trend into your signature sour brights. And as others have said, the flares are gorgeous on you. I don’t often see them in the wild (maybe on me in the wild ;-)

  • Nadine replied 2 weeks ago

Wow, Angie! You look great. I agree with Runcarla, aspirational and inspirational! Thank you for showcasing the Boden sweater. I have had my eye on it and will now buy it for sure.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

    Wow! Thank you so much.

Lots of love for #9 to #11. Fascinating!

Sharan, such generous and kind words! Appreciate your attention to detail and keen eye, as always. YES! Such a perfect hand-me-down :)

Suz, much appreciate your sweet compliments and analysis too! I'm smiling :) I can see you wear my Mulberry - Jo and Sam fit into it - and the old orange Collettes are alive! Although not strong....

Bonnie, the COH's are at an unsafe length on the model. Need to cuff them so I don't trip when I stride ;) - and thanks for the formula love!

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Carla, Debbie and Aloha Emily, humbled to inspire your own casual outfits! *blushing*

Brooklyn, makes sense that that's your fave! Thank you for the kind words! Exciting to launch you into orbit.

Slim Cat, you are always so lovely! Appreciate your grace. The skinnies deserve affection because of their glitz, and sounds like you got your beautiful eyes from your Mama :)

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Lise, yes you may ;) - And #20 is of my sweet, sweet boy Sam and me! You can tell by his blind eyes. Thanks for the kind words.

Pirouette, always interesting how our eyes adjust! Skinnies feel odd on my body too. I wonder if we'll go back. Never say never :)

UmmLila, we've both added browns to our styles! Versatile, and a nice change, don't you think? I'm sure you wear your flares with panache.

Nadine, great! The orange Boden jumper is thick and warm. Hope you love it too. Humbled to have inspired you.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Irina, what a lovely thing to say. Thank you!

  • Jenni NZ replied 2 weeks ago

I love your red flares! I don’t remember them so well. Your legs look miles long! And I’ve had those jeans with their gold buttons in my Finds almost the whole time I have been on YLF, fantastic detailing. Your dark blonde hair does look great with these browns.

  • Star (Lise) replied 2 weeks ago

Oh Angie I did notice blue eyes and thought it could be Sam but as you haven't posted a pic of him in a while I decided must be 'camera eyes,'. So nice to see him interacting with you so lovingly. I had a doggie that went blind as well.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Jenni, thank you! Old, and great red trousers! Theory, 4-season wool, and impeccable. Worn them lots, and look new. And I remember how much you like my glitzy skinnies ;)

Lise, bless you and your blind doggie! Sam is doing soooo well! Very playful, prancing, full of beans, cerebral, and cuddly despite his blindness. He'd much rather be snoozing, chewing, walking, or playing than helping me with my photo shoot - which Jo likes to do. She's usually the photobomber.

  • Kate replied 2 weeks ago

#9 knocked me out. Gorgeous. Also love #10/#11.

  • JAileen replied 2 weeks ago

I love the light browns on you.  They look so pretty with your hair.  I also like the shorter cut.  And I love aviator jacket on you, too.

We cared for my SIL’s dog, George, for a year while she was trying to sell her house.  He was blind and his eyes were blue like that.  In his case it was detached retinas.  Anyway, George did amazingly well, even able to chase a ball!  I think when dogs lose one sense, they rely more on their other senses.  George relied more on his hearing, whereas Bob Barker, now that he’s stone deaf is relying more on his sense of smell/taste.  I’ve noticed him licking things more.

  • The Cat replied 2 weeks ago

My favourites are #9-11. Beautiul colour combos for you. Your flares look gorgeous. And your haistyle is very chic. And OF COURSE 'brown is better on you than black and grey'. Because you have warm colouring. :-)

All those years when retail was heavily dominated by black and grey must have been difficult for people with warm colouring.

It is great to see people dressed in colours which really suit them, not just colours which are "in." So while it is wonderful that warm neutrals are back in fashion, noone should feel a pressure to wear browns just because these are trending now. Any trending colour is not necessarily the best choice for any person. ;-)

  • Jaime replied 2 weeks ago

What! a big slouchy cross body bag :) ! You know I love that. You look spectacular in all your browns, and this hair length and color really suit you beautifully. Love the bootleg red jeans on you. Your browns are gorgeous on you!

  • Karie replied 2 weeks ago

Your slim fit jeans are fabulous! I am actually more comfortable in my slim straights than in wide leg or even regular fit pants.
And is that Sam in the last photo? Such a cutie patootie!

  • Sal replied 2 weeks ago

Lovely outfits Angie - I enjoy seeing what changes in your outfits and what stays the same.  You look great in these warm browns - I can relate to some struggles with brown - I had a brown school uniform too!

Love the red flares on you, and both jackets.

I have one pair of slim jeans still, and some work trousers that are tailored but not wide leg.  I do plan to keep at least one pair of slim fit jeans in my closet because there are days when they feel right.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

    Kate, thank you!

JAIlleen, such kind words, and I appreciate them! YES, Sam continues to play and chase balls. Sooo clever! His sense of smell and hearing are excellent. We call his ears his “eye-ears”. Bless your Bob Barker for making extra use of his sense of taste :)

The Cat, such wise words and I’m in full agreement. I was one of those people who struggled with the plethora of fashionable black and grey - especially back in the ‘90s.  Good thing we have choices! Thanks for the awfully kind words too!

Jaime, another who loves the red flared wool trousers! Blushing at your smashing compliments, and of course - I feel extra connected to you when I sport my gigantic red crossbody ;)

Karie, interesting! Wear what makes you feel your best, and yes that’s our sweet Sam in the last pic. Full of kisses!

Sal, AHA! You get the brown school uniform thing! Almost scared for life, but not quite. Thanks for the lovely compliments, and agree that slim bottoms can come in handy ;)

  • Cookie replied 2 weeks ago

    HI, SAM!
I feel warm and cozy, yet infinitely cool, just looking at the aviator jacket.
Also, tearing my eyes away from the scene-stealing pup, I love the orange sweater with the red eyeglasses.

  • Joyce B replied 2 weeks ago

Fab outfits, like always. I think brown is another great color for you.

  • RobinF replied 2 weeks ago

Love these! You are so good with reds! But my favorite is the orange pleather with cream. Love it. And the brown aviator. So many fun looks to enjoy.

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

    Thanks so much!

JoyceB, browns are better for me than I gave them credit for ;)

Robin F, reds are "neutral" ;) - and orange is not far behind!

  • lyn67 replied 2 weeks ago

OMG, the last pictie had me melted-a candy to my eyes, you both!
Now imagine my 6 yrs old dalmatian doing the same thing...she is a big girl, now!!:-))
Always love to sneak peek into your colorful wardrobe-and am amazed how well your browns do with every other brights! Love those new booties, they really are sharp! And the red bag! It is new to me to see you with a more "unstructured" bag-love you play with swapping the straps.
I was a victim of the black and grey era, too, but it coincided with my rise in profesional carreer so was quite a good change  still wear as I have greyish (bluey-green) eyes and still find blacks edgy somehow, although nowadays  I am looking to find rather some of more distressed  blacks (and usually  textured) than the jet blacks of my younger times.

  • Lisa replied 2 weeks ago

It's a delight to see how you've integrated browns into your wardrobe. I'm especially fond of the red and brown combination in #9, these two colors are lovely paired together! Second favorite is the orange and tan in #19, simply a delightful pairing!

How fun that the new bomber jacket became an instant workhorse (I love when that happens). It's also a real treat to see a variety of pant silhouettes, you wear all styles so well. And it's fun to change up from wide legs every once in a while. The new to you Mulberry bag is a gorgeous shade of red and perfect paired with the sour colors and brown. What an excellent addition from your friend!

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

    Thank you so much!

Lyn67, hugs to your sweet dalmatian! I want to see her. YES! It's new to see me with such an unstructured bag. When it's soooo perfect, how can I not wear it ;)

Lisa, go Team Browns! Never say never, right ;) That goes for wearing multiple pants silhouettes too. You bat for the same team! Simply delighted with my "new" bag.

  • Bijou replied 2 weeks ago

I love the aviator jacket on you - it's amazing at how much nicer it is on you than the model picture - the collar looks lighter and brighter than the beige of the model picture and it makes all the difference.

I love your old jeans - I always think of them as being your Versace jeans (even though they are not) and love the euro glamness of them. Your hair is super sharp, a great new look!

  • Angie replied 2 weeks ago

Bijou, lovely to see you chime in! I miss your incredible outfits. Thanks for the lovely compliments! A sharp haircut can do wonders for one's style ;)
