Keeping my new BIG Skirt!

I love big skirts :)

(EXCUSE the wrinkles - needs a good press. Not styled. Popped the new skirt on with the Esprit hoodie I'm wearing today to show you).

I've had one of these - think Oscar de la Renta skirts - on my shopping list for years! Not willing to spend too much on the item, I finally stumbled across this one for a song from Karen Millen. Fully lined and beautifully made. I'm impressed.

It's absolutely gorgeous and better in person. Its architectural drape, length, fit, colour, and volume are perfect! Pockets too! The pleats don't pouf out at the waist because they are masterfully constructed and partially stitched down. Genius. Surprisingly comfy too.

I'm ready to wear this skirt, whenever! Christmas Eve for starters. My head is exploding with ideas on how to style it. It's seasonless and trendless, to my eye.

I need to think about how to store its bigness in our compact loft........

Thanks for looking. Yes, I have the specs to match! xo

Oooh, gorgeous! That is going to be so fun to wear. I love the colour! So vivid and happy. I predict at least a few wears over the holiday season!

  • DonnaF replied 2 months ago

Looks great! You have build to pull this off. Maybe the skirt gets its own special place outside a closet?

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Suz, thanks, and so fun! I'm excited to wear my new darling soon :) - High fiving my big skirt style sister.

DonnaF, thank you, and lovely to see you chime in! It's going to live with my old big navy tulle skirt somewhere......

Wow! What an incredible statement piece, I'm sure you'll be the belle of ball wherever you go in this skirt. It reminds me of Carolina Herrera's skirts. Should be so fun to style. Looking forward to seeing your versions.

  • Bonnie replied 2 months ago

What a wonderful skirt. You will have a lot of fun with it. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

  • bj1111 replied 2 months ago

Dee is spot on—Carolina Herrera reminiscent . Also with your sweatshirt—seems like a ride on Sharon stone’s Oscar outfit.

    Lovely fun.

  • Debbie replied 2 months ago

This skirt is perfection. What a wonderful find.

    It looks amazing on you!

  • Jenni NZ replied 2 months ago

I had to search Oscar de la Renta skirts! Found this beautiful one from the 80s! Yours is lovely.

  • Cookie replied 2 months ago

    Loooovvvvvve them both!

Seriously, that's an amazing piece. I can't wait to see how you style it!

  • Katerina replied 2 months ago

It looks gorgeous! It is so fun to see you this excited - and I especially love that you chose the red color!

  • Star replied 2 months ago

    Made for you :)

  • Minaminu replied 2 months ago

The smile says it all!! Fab skirt and can't wait to see how you style it!

  • Olive Green replied 2 months ago

    Really beautiful. Classic and killer.

  • Joy replied 2 months ago

Full skirts make my legs look especially thin. So I stick to pencil skirts. They are not in style but that’s ok. I have the occasional full skirt and a very few pleated ones, so a variety.

  • Jules replied 2 months ago

Wow, so gorgeous! I was assuming it was a pricey piece so clicking through and seeing it’s ‘prom’ and inexpensive makes it a doubly amazing find. I’ve never owned this style but consider it a beautiful, classic & aspirational look with the white shirt. And I’m sure you’ll style it in other interesting ways that I can’t wait to see!

  • LJP replied 2 months ago

Absolutely beautiful on you Angie.  The skirt seems made for you .

  • SW Ann replied 2 months ago

That skirt is spectacular and you look wonderful in it!!!

  • unfrumped replied 2 months ago

How great! Lovely red for you, but the other colors are fab, too.

  • pil replied 2 months ago

    Wow, that is stunning!

  • Joyce B replied 2 months ago

    Lovely skirt, enjoy it.

  • Suz replied 2 months ago

My mother sewed me a magenta taffeta skirt from an Oscar de la Renta pattern in the 80s. It was incredible! I wore it with a sleevless lace blouse with a high collar (also made by her) and a black velvet jacket (that someone stole the next time I wore it...I have never got over the loss of that lovely jacket, sob....)

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone!

Dee, yes! The skirt is very Carolina Hererra. Good observation :)

Pill, Olive Green, LJP, JoyceB, unfrumped, SW Ann, Cookie, Minaminu, and Debbie, lovely to see you chime in, and thanks for the kind words :)

bj1111 and Lisa, you made me laugh! Much appreciated.

JenniNZ, a big '80s high five!

Bonnie, Star, and Slim Cat, you are lovely!

Katerina, I'm lucky to have found this skirt in one of my colours ;)

Joy, your narrow legs look good in all sorts of skirts!

Jules, I know, right? Such a steal.

Suz, your '80s outfit sounds incredible! Very memorable and special that Mama made it for you. How rude that your jacket was stolen :(

  • JAileen replied 2 months ago

The color looks better in your picture than on the website.  I can imagine great outfits on you!

  • Cee replied 2 months ago

    Perfection achieved !

  • Janet replied 2 months ago

OMG that is fabulous! You wear it so well!

  • Jaime replied 2 months ago

My goodness Angie you are even making it work with a sweatshirt and no shoes! Stunning piece and you wear it beautifully!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 2 months ago

Wowza! It's stunning on you, Angie. What a fantastic find after all your years. A case of good things coming to those who wait!

  • Runcarla replied 2 months ago

Beautiful!  I do love that silouhette, and like others have fond memories of a full skirt from the 80’s that I really did wear out.

I started noticing solid colour longer and fuller skirts in Uniqlo last year and into this year, and one of the curated thrift shops in my town is featuring a selection of  patterned (paisley, large floral) longer and fuller skirts reminiscent of the ‘Russian Look’ Yves St. Laurent showed in the mid to late ‘70’s.

You can even go back as far as Dior’s New Look…for a similar silouhette.  I foresee lots of styling fun!

  • cat2 replied 2 months ago

Love the pick. I’ve been seeing what I think of as a 50s silhouette; but I’m not sure that’s historically accurate. Anyhow, this is a great nod to that without being overwhelming. It looks like great fun for the holidays and Valentines.

  • April replied 2 months ago

    Love it!

And there's "our" skirt completing your big skirt collection. :)

  • ChristelJ replied 2 months ago

Utterly fantastic skirt on you! Carla's reference to 1950s Dior brings to mind similar silhouettes I've seen and long admired. Whatever era it evokes, it's magnificent! Can't wait to see your take on styling it.

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

JAileen and Cee, nice to see you chime in! Appreciate the compliments.

Janet, Jaime, ChristelJ, and Sharan, I’m blushing at your awfully kind words. Thank you!

Carla and cat2, yes to its ‘50s inspired "Dior’s New Look" skirt vibe. You're spot on. The silhouette feels iconic, which is why I mentioned seasonless and trendless in my post. High five!

April, fun to be tulle skirt twins with you :)

  • Style Fan replied 2 months ago

Gorgeous skirt, Angie!  It will be fun to style it.

  • Jenni NZ replied 2 months ago

Angie I was reading my Barbie book to wee granddaughter last night and there was a lovely pic of a winning Barbie in an Oscar de la Renta inspired dress- he judged the competition himself. I thought you might enjoy it. The shape of the skirt part of the dress is similar :)

  • Brooklyn replied 2 months ago

Divine! You need to pair it with one of those off the shoulder tops that are trending to go full glam! Or a yorkie t-shirt to go full juxta :)

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

    Thanks, Style Fan!

Jenni, how adorable! And on point! Thanks for sharing :)

Brooklyn, yes to the juxtaposing Yorkie tee! And two real Yorkies in tow when I wear this skirt ;)

  • Joyce replied 2 months ago

The best skirt and colour, just made for you.
Looked at a similar one in Vancouver on Saturday but in a large leopard print. It was too stiff to pack so I passed; if it can't travel I won't get the wear out of it.

  • Kyle replied 2 months ago

Pretty, pretty, pretty. Very Christmasy. I just can’t wait to see how you style this beauty.

  • Sisi replied 2 months ago

I am speechless! You will look like a princess of a fairy tale in that gown.

  • BlueJay replied 2 months ago

Very pretty on you Angie! So glamorous!

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Joyce, there are some great big skirts that aren't as voluminous at Boden. Appreciate the compliment!

Kyle, Sisi and Blue Jay, thanks for the kind words :)

  • Laura replied 2 months ago

Honestly Angie, I don't know how you're ever going to get noticed if you keep dressing like this. :)

Seriously though, I love it! Big skirts for the win! I recently fell in love with this Anthropologie skirt and I feel so fab wearing it that I duplicated in the dark floral pattern.

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Thanks for making me laugh, Laura :)

Love your Anthro skirt - and YES to duplicating it in a floral. Double the fabness!

  • Carol replied 2 months ago

That's such a WOW, and maybe the best thing I've ever seen you wear/buy.  Like you said, it is a MASSIVE seasonal party statement on its own, but a clever wearer could figure out other uses. Perhaps an interesting Easter look, with a pastel floral top???

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Lovely to see you chime in, Carol! I could wear this skirt to all sorts of events and dressy dinners. Or to host at home We only live once! :)

  • Karie replied 2 months ago

Sweet sister! That skirt is gorgeous! Soooooo beautiful. I can’t wait to see how you style it!

  • Rock replied 2 months ago

When I was a young girl in the early 1970s, my mother used to make me paper dolls with glorious full skirts (think The King and I). From that point on, I have had an affinity for big skirts, especially when made of taffeta, and especially in delicious colors. This is such a delectable skirt. Wear it every chance you get!

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Karie, lovely to see you chime in! And thanks for making me smile :)

Rock, thank youI I have my outfit lined up for Xmas Eve.

  • Zaeobi replied 2 months ago

Gorgeous colour, weight & fabric - the definition of a showstopper, for sure!

PS - Karen Millen has been consistently coming out with great stuff lately - I had no idea her clothes were available across the pond too, but I'm glad :D

  • Angie replied 2 months ago

Lovely to see you chime in, Zaeobi! Thanks for the kind words, and size up for KM items if you decide to order them :)

  • Greenjeans replied 2 months ago
