Dress Challenge: Watermelon & Ice

One of Greg's favourites. A Boden lace from last season I had completely altered one size down. Sooooo worth it to create a perfect fit.

Structured Movement his my favourite type of dress because I walk fast and bounce around a lot. Party at the back :)

28C degrees today and blissfully sunny. A day of work, errands, and walking Sam, and this is what I wore. Need a denim jacket for mornings and evenings. I chose an oversized one to create tension with the classic dress. I bought the J.Brand denim jacket in Amsterdam four years ago because its white metal buttons launched me into orbit.

Dressy white flats, eyewear and pearls add some glam. I chose a light blue Furla to match the jacket - and because light blue goes with everything. The crossbody is a must because everything is on foot and I have groceries and dry-cleaning to carry. The flats, jacket and crossbody temper the formality of the dress. Can't go wrong!

You don't need an occassion to wear a lace dress. Each day is an occasion and opportunity to feel fab in your clothes as long as you're comfortable and can do the tasks at hand.

That is a beautiful dress on you.The shape is sophisticated and the colour is divine,l am not surprised that your husband loves it.He is obviously a Man of taste.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Cardiff girl, how awfully gracious of you. Thank you.

  • DeAnna replied 5 years ago

    Just stunning.

  • ChristelJ replied 5 years ago

Hooray for lace, just out and about, getting things done! The watermelon and blue are so delicious together, and I love the idea of "causing tension" by wearing the casual with the dressy. Hope you felt terrific as you look today.

    28 degrees? So confused...

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

DeAnna and ChristelJ, you're so nice. Thank you.

    Bennett, does 82F help :)

  • Bonnie replied 5 years ago

Dress #2 is beautifully elegant and I like the way you made it work for a casual day

  • Bennett replied 5 years ago

Oh thank god! I was ready to throw a blanket over you!!!!!!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Bonnie, dressing items down makes them more versatile. Denim jackets and flats are handy for that, and you get it!

    Bennett, HAH.

You look stunning, Angie. Such a pretty dress and flattering color.
I am meeting a friend for a casual dinner tonight and you have inspired me to wear a lace dress and denim jacket.

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

Such a beautiful colour on you, Angie!

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

The dress is so pretty on you. I think my light blue Furla is nearly identical. I love its soft leather.

  • Becky replied 5 years ago

Lovely! I'm glad to see you rocking the crossbody, as that is my usual bag look, for the same reason.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

A beautiful dress on you both with and without the jacket and you have styled it as a day on the go dress to perfection. And seeing you with a crossbody bag made my day!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Suntiger & Tanya, go Team Lace Anytime. Why not!

Thanks, Rachy. Does it match your hair?

Janet, are we light blue Furla twins? NICE.

Becky, crossbodies are sooooo practical. I like the OPTION from dressy satchel to crossbody best.

Jaime, always so lovely. And since I made Queen Crossbody's day, I'm smiling :)

    Beautiful you !
Who needs an occasion to wear fabulous clothes !

  • Runcarla replied 5 years ago

    So pretty and fresh!

  • Brooklyn replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous Angie. Watermelon = summer.

Do you really wear those shoes to walk Sam? I am continually amazed at your ability to keep white items clean.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Taylor, every day is an opportunity to wear what makes you happy. HIGH FIVE.

    Thanks, sweet RunCarla

Brooklyn, thank you. YES! I wore those shoes to walk Sam twice today - on the shorter walks. For the two longer walks I changed into sneaks with the same outfit. (He walks 4 times a day). It's downtown city walking though, and on concrete. No Summer rain so no mud. Not in a dog park or on a trail, IYKWIM. Then I'd wear sneakers or my ugly trail shoes. I also wipe down my shoes after every wear :)

Gorgeous colours as ever, what a super dress, and a lovely Furla.

  • RainB replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous! :)

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

Beautiful dress and great outfit. Love the colours together. You look super cute!

  • Jenni NZ replied 5 years ago

It’s really pretty and I like your new loft too. I am a bit surprised that the white flats are comfortable enough for Sam walks. They look a tiny bit loose maybe but obviously don’t feel it.

  • kkards replied 5 years ago

matching your shoes and your glasses...priceless...i would have wore the sunnies all day
    FAB

  • RobinF replied 5 years ago

Gorgeous! I am not good about wearing dressier items in a casual way, need to think about this. Love using crossbodies, so much more functional for me.

  • Eliza replied 5 years ago

Love this on you and the encouragement to wear a dress is appreciated. I tend to save dresses for occasions and wind up getting too little wear out of them. Pearls with a denim jacket? If I saw you on the street, I’d be smiling, even if I didn’t know who you are.

I have that dress (not a coincidence) and wonder how dressy it can go with the right hair, accessories, etc. Something about the fabric says day, not cocktails to me; what do you think? O

  • Janet replied 5 years ago

So pretty! That’s such a great color, and I like the blue with it.

In theory I love the idea of simply wearing nicer things for everyday. But with two energetic catahoulas and a pug who likes to be in a lap, plus the unpredictable nature of my usual activities, any dress involving lace, ruffles, light colors, silk, or dry cleaning would be asking for disaster. ;-)

  • Laura replied 5 years ago

This is dress nirvana, pure and simple. Thanks for the reminder that no garment, even a lace dress, is too precious to be loved and worn in our everyday life. The oversized denim jacket, 80s flats and light blue bag have sent me into orbit and I am currently circling Mars!

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Beautiful dress, beautiful outfit, beautiful Angie. And adorable Sam. :)

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

Awh love that you  tempered the dressiness of the dress with a denim jacket-dress has an elegant length and swish- looks so beautiful on you-love pairing big amount of bright fuchsia with 2 close neutrals: brigh white shoes/specs and light blue bag and jacket! Gorgeous!

So pretty!  Also, thanks for the bit about not saving outfits for special occasions.  I have a red lace dress that needs more wear and there's no reason why it can't be worn to work.

  • kellygirl replied 5 years ago

Wow! You make me want to wear dresses every day! SO pretty, Angie! I can't help but smile when you look so radiant in your dress. YLF!

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

Such a wonderful dress on you. Your seamstressdid a great job in sizing it down.

  • anchie replied 5 years ago

Such a pretty special dress, but I think not everyone can pull off lace dress for everyday wear like you do.

  • replied 5 years ago

That dress is pure happiness!  The color is gorgeous, and you look great in it.  Perfect!

  • Elizabeth P replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous!

  • Joyce B replied 5 years ago

Beautiful! What is that lovely knit top from picture 7?

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Thanks for the awfully kind words, ladies. I'm smiling.

Joyce B, that's the top of the same dress :)

Jenni, I'm curling up my toes in that pic - hence it's doing that to the fit. The flats fit perfectly. See Pics.

    Laura, go Team "80s!

  • Helena replied 5 years ago

    Such a pretty colour combo!

  • Mainelady replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous and graceful!

  • Roxanna replied 5 years ago

You look so happy and bright it's making me smile :) LOVE the juxtaposition of the fit and flare dress with the oversized jacket!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Thanks for the lovely compliments, ladies. I'm blushing the colour of watermelon.

  • Karie replied 5 years ago

Another beautiful dress, Angie. I love the length and the color.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago
