Back to a Classic Pixie

I chopped more hair off. Had it done yesterday, very deliberately. I've had 5.5 inches chopped off my fringe this year. (4 months of lockdown hair growth!)

Last week was wet, windy, and cool in Seattle. I'm on foot and outside in the city many times a day because I walk everywhere. Mask, rain, specs, hood, fogged up eyewear, Sam in tow, carrying groceries, doing errands..... and long fringe with longer hair around my ears driving me bananas.

I need hair that looks good after hoods, rain, wind, and beanies. And is mask- friendly too.

PROBLEM SOLVED! I'm back to a short classic pixie that I can wear multiple ways, and looks polished after it's fought with the weather, masks, hats and hoods.

#1 - after the salon with a fringe so blow dried

#2 to #5 - air dried at home with product so wavy fringe

#6 to #8 - air dried at home so wavy but pushed back.

#9 - no specs, which is how I type, work, read, Zoom, and cook at home

My hair is almost zero effort day to day, and a shorter visit to the salon to boot. Much better for these times!

Post COVID and mask-wearing, I'll grow out my fringe and sides again....

I'm happy with the practical and fuss-free change. I once again feel polished :)

Your new pixie looks great!  I've been considering taking my hair somewhat shorter, and you just sold me on the idea.

  • Cardiff girl replied 3 years ago

Oh yes ,the soggy fringe lashing your face and getting stuck in your lipstick,l remember how that feels except now it’s no lipstick and foggy glasses .I don’t blame you at all for having it all chopped off besides it suits you and puts all the emphasis on your beautiful eyes.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Catnip, what a treat to see you chime in. Thanks! Humbled to have inspired you, and hope you and your tribe are safe and strong.

Cardiff Girl, you get it - (UK weather is much the same) - and crack me up. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Helena replied 3 years ago

Beautiful! You wear pixies with the best of them.

  • Sara L. replied 3 years ago

Oh wow!  Looks great!  I know what you mean about having so much around your face being annoying.  I take my dogs for walks in the mornings and two dogs, a mask, headphones, sunglasses, hat (now that it's getting cold in the mornings) is just a lot going on.  I took the opposite approach and grew my hair out long enough to get into a ponytail.

  • Chris987 replied 3 years ago

Totally FAB!!!  You remind me (and cardiff girl said) that a short haircut puts the emphasis on one's face more than so many other styles do.  I'm thinking about doing a chop myself.   How much wave/curl  does your hair have on it's own?

  • Sal replied 3 years ago

Looks great Angie! I do agree that either very short or quite long hair is the easiest to manage. You suit the pixie style so well and I know that feeling of the hair getting in the way of life.

  • nemosmom replied 3 years ago

Your new 'do is GORGEOUS and frames your face beautifully, Angie!  Having hair that looks polished and fab in all conditions - weather AND headwear - is #lifegoals!

  • Katerina replied 3 years ago

I absolutely love this short style on you! So cool, polished and pretty at the same time.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

Angie, you look beautiful! I LOVE the classic pixie. Of course, I might be just a leeeeeetle bit biased. But....I also hear you 500% on the practicality in this time when we need to reduce the hassles in our lives!

I really like it all ways -- straight, natural wave, pushed back. You are lucky to get that many options with a pixie. My own hair has less wave at the top so when I go ultra short there is little wave visible, but I can still change the look by pushing forward, back, or to another side. And blow drying makes it straighter / smoother and less textured. So.

This is a great cut on you and it's so nice not to have to worry about the hair!

  • Minaminu replied 3 years ago

Super! Short haircuts really suit you, I like how it makes your eyes pop!

  • Murph11 replied 3 years ago

Fresh, beautiful and practical... I love it!

  • anchie replied 3 years ago

So beautiful on you. And surprisingly many ways to wear it, like them all. I really miss having short hair.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thank you for the awfully kind words, ladies :)

Sara and Sal, YES! Longer hair that goes into a ponytail is as practical. No more hair getting in the way of life!

Nemosmom, Murph11, Minaminu, Helena and Katerina, very gracious!

Suz, high five to my Practical Pixie Sister! You have the best silver pixie, and I love how you wear it back and to the front.

Chris, this is natural wave - #2 to #8. Air dried and easy. Wavier in the rain of course!

Anchie, well. Cut your hair short!

  • Bonnie replied 3 years ago

Your new haircut looks fab and sounds perfect for your lifestyle.

  • replied 3 years ago

Looks great- you definitely rock short hair, and definitely easier in a rainy climate! It's cold enough for hats there already?

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks, sweet Bonnie. Have you managed to have your hair cut yet?

Suntiger, not wearing beanies yet. But hoods aplenty, sunhats a while ago, and beanies next month!

  • AndiB replied 3 years ago

Super cute! No one rocks a pixie like Angie!

  • Runcarla replied 3 years ago

I totally get it!  Great cut - with versatility built in.  Wavy is my favourite.

  • Style Fan replied 3 years ago

Great pixie!  You look lovely in all the pictures.  I understand about easy hair.

  • CarolS replied 3 years ago

I totally get the appeal of a sweet, short pixie, and it looks so lovely on you, Angie.
I had super short hair a few years ago and loved that it almost looked BETTER after I pulled off my winter hat! My hair is obviously longer now, but I'd be going nuts if I wasn't pinning the bangs off my face every day, and if I couldn't pull it into a ponytail when needed.

  • Lynette replied 3 years ago

Love your new “do” Angie! And your eyes are so pretty! Somehow the short hair really shows them off.

  • Janet replied 3 years ago

Short hair so suits your great bone structure! Really cute!

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

What Janet said. Not everyone could wear this cut so well. Very cute.

  • replied 3 years ago

Super pretty as always :) I’m all for no fuss hair , and a style that doesn’t looked forced ( which mine does and I hate it ) . What styling products are you using these days ?

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

Looks good! No fuss, no muss :)

  • Jaime replied 3 years ago

Beautiful in every iteration! Nothing like a beautiful pixie on a beautiful woman. Am a bit jealous as we are back in lockdown and I am getting mighty tired of my unpredictable hair!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 years ago

This is a great cut, Angie. You look so good with a pixie!
I am headed to the salon for a trim tomorrow and boy am I ready, too!

  • slim cat replied 3 years ago

Love it! I call short pixie - "wash and go" - need one exactly like that!
Beautiful look - slight preference for wavy version ( because that's the one more difficult on my hair ;)  ).

  • Bijou replied 3 years ago

Angie - I love this hairstyle on you and also love how versatile your styling options are - hard to pick a favourite.

  • Preppy Pear replied 3 years ago

Oh, YES. Love the texture, shape on all of these - pixie, pixie, pixie! Looks gorgeous and soft and perfectly polished - you must be thrilled! Suits you so well.

  • Cee replied 3 years ago

No funny comeback, Ange'... You look good !!

  • dianne replied 3 years ago

Awesome pixie cut! I love the soft curls on top! Very pretty!

  • Brooklyn replied 3 years ago

    You’ve never looked better :)

  • RobinF replied 3 years ago

You look great in this cut, it suits your face so well with your high cheekbones and big eyes. I wore very short hair for years and loved the ease of it. Now leaving my hair curly is almost as easy but does get in my eyes. :)

  • viva replied 3 years ago

Love it, Angie. Really beautiful cut.

I had grown out my hair quite a bit during the lockdown and was enjoying the difference .... but yesterday I went and had it all cut off again. I sent a picture to my sister and she texted back; "You can never, never, never ever grow your hair out again." LOL! She knows that short hair suits me and - more importantly - makes me feel most like myself!

(Have to note that my hair now bears a striking resemblance to Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music, even if I am aiming for Audrey Hepburn.) :)

  • cindysmith replied 3 years ago

As always, you look adorable and true to yourself <3

  • Aquamarine replied 3 years ago

You look beautiful. All your haircuts have looked fab on you. How lucky.

I’ve deliberately kept my hair shoulder-length this year so I can tie it back out of the way. I cannot do a pixie and I’ve found in-between hair to be more of a hassle than my current length.

  • Kyle replied 3 years ago

    LOVE.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thank you all for the awfully kind words! I’m blushing :)

Slim Cat, I want to see your pixie!

Lisa P, your short hair always, always looks great! Please don’t think otherwise. I’m using La Biosthetique hydrating fluid and cream clay at the moment.

Vivian, you crack me up. It was fun to see you with longer hair! Looked lovely! Shorter hair is always a slam dunk though. And LOVE your specs.

Lynette! Loved seeing you chime in :)

CarolS, you have beautiful thieve hair. I admit it.

Jaime, I know infections are very high in Israel right now. Stay safe and take care!

    Sharan, enjoy your haircut today.

  • Jane replied 3 years ago

You look so pretty! It is a gorgeous cut and it really suits you.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    Thanks, Jane :)

  • JAileen replied 3 years ago

Your new hairdo looks so pretty.  I really think you would look good in any style.

  • amiable replied 3 years ago

Love your pixie!! (And I miss mine!). Your suits You so well.

  • Jessikams replied 3 years ago

The little curl in front is such a great detail— really adds personality.

I’ve recently gone back to my buzz cut after months of a longer Mohawk-style cut. Like you, I was getting too frustrated with always having to check my hair after being out in the weather. It rains a LOT in Taiwan (my new home) and so keeping my wavy hair under control was a headache!

Cheers to your new hair. Good luck adjusting it with your outfits— even a few inches can mean that my clothes look different, I find.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thank you for being so nice, ladies!

Jessikams, your buzz cut sounds fab! Hope you are settling in well.

  • karen13 replied 3 years ago

Lovely!Fun fresh and pretty.  I’m envious! I will soon need my third home cut from DD since my last pro job in February.

  • citygirldc replied 3 years ago

@Angie - You know how much I love a pixie and of course you can't go wrong with your classic look. Love it!

I have to make a big decision with my hair. It's getting too long to control I have a hair appointment coming up, so decisions will be made. We shall see.

  • Astrid replied 3 years ago

I looks great, Angie! I really like your hair this short. I’ve also kept my hair pretty short since my radical cut in spring. It’s the same for me, with specs and mask I simply feel better when my hair is extra tidy and easy to care for.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Karen13, still no open salons in your area?

    Naz, flip a coin :)

    Astrid, a big HIGH FIVE!

  • Gail replied 3 years ago

    Simply gorgeous YLF !!
I used to have a pixie cut many years ago , I now feel too exposed with short hair and have a bob . Love it on other people.

  • DonnaF replied 3 years ago

Your new ‘do is the BEST!!! Glad you love it too.

I got a haircut earlier this week. I think my hair has gotten more stubborn as I’ve gotten older. Is that possible? Too short and too masculine, but it will grow out. I think it’s harder to get the proportions right while maneuvering around a mask.

  • Laura replied 3 years ago

Beautiful, Angie! And practical, too. A classic pixie is exactly where I've landed as well. As long as we can keep seeing our stylists regularly, it's an ideal style for this Covid year.

  • Karie replied 3 years ago

I love pixie haircuts, and yours is gorgeous. Yay for fuss free hair during these trying times!

  • LaPed replied 3 years ago

Looks so great! I've been contemplating going back to a pixie, too, but I'm too much of a wuss to do it in the winter -- cold ears and neck. Perhaps in the spring. I've gone the opposite direction for now, growing my hair out so it's long enough to keep it up in a bun when I need to wear a mask.

  • Barbara Diane replied 3 years ago

    Cute and practical.
Wow, your hair grew 5.5 inches in 4 months! Average is 6” a year. And I think mine is slower than that.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks for the awfully sweet words!

Barbara Diane, I had a head start on the fringe before lock down! My hair does not grow fast.

Laura, we are once again pixie sisters. LOVE you in a pixie, my friend.

  • Inge replied 3 years ago

Late to the party, but you already know what I think :-) GORGEOUS!!!!!!

  • Cee replied 3 years ago

I'd love to see Angie rocking a prison mullet.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Inge, fun to be Pixie twins with you!

Cee, I will leave the mullet to you ;)

  • kkards replied 3 years ago

    Nice!

  • Mainelady replied 3 years ago

Perfection with the pixie! You wear this style very well and show t a pixie can be versatile. It is wonderful to have hair that behaves well after having to brave the elements. Take off the hood and mask, put on a smile and you are totally fab!

  • lyn67 replied 3 years ago

Love it- your  pixie is cut so great -and looks indeed polished, no matter what! Loved to see you without specs, too-didn't know you don't need to  wear them in the house!

  • Cee replied 3 years ago

    Goth ? Angry Activist ? Punk ? 60's BEEEE HI-I-I-I-I-IVE !!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Thanks, ladies! Appreciate the kind words.

Lyn67, I am short sighted, so I need my specs to watch tele :)

Cee, Punk I have done! And I'm looking more '60s at the moment..... Jean Seberg.

  • Cee replied 3 years ago

    Bo-ho !!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    I don't see boho. I see Mod!

  • The Cat replied 3 years ago

Congratulations! This is very chic--very you. :-)

  • Eliza replied 3 years ago

Love your cut and all you can do with it. Just beautiful, definitely polished and practical. How a cut makes a difference to our state of mind.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

You make me smile, ladies :)

  • Joyful replied 3 years ago

Swooon! Nothing is more fab than a pixie, in my opinion.  You look so lovely, like your head was created for that 'do.  I have a pixie too, a purple one!

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Joy, your purple pixie is beautiful, and works soooo well with your body art! LOVE! You look a little like an edgier version of the fab Ally Sheedy. Fun! Thanks for the kind words :)

  • Jenni NZ replied 3 years ago

Angie it is very Mod! And gorgeous. I love Mod.
I am going to try to look like I have an 80s pixie on Saturday. We are hosting my hubby’s 60th with a James Bond theme ( luckily NZ just back to a nearly Covid-free status so we are allowed a party). Not many Bond girls had short hair! So I will do my best on this one: a CIA agent named Pam Bouvier from Licence to Kill 1989 movie.
Will try to post pics on forum eventually.

  • anne replied 3 years ago

Angie, I have been away and off reception so just saw this. You look adorable.

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    Thanks for the kind words!

    Anne
, I miss you! Hope you and your tribe are good back in Oz.

Jenni! HOW FUN! Please post pics! VERY ENVIOUS of your nearly normal life in NZ.  We are sooooooo far away from that here.....

  • taylor replied 3 years ago

Awe,  goodness,  I missed this thread.  We are were traveling a bit to see family .

i must admit,  this is my favorite look/length on you!  Of course,  you look fabulous in all variations of your Pixie,  even your grown out version.

This  being a bit shorter,  and looks a bit blonder is just perfection . Wavy or straight ,  just gorgeous framing  that beautiful face !
    ❤️

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

Taylor! Thanks for chiming in with your professional opinion. Means a lot :)

And how GREAT that the easiest wash-and-go and weather-practical  pixie is your fave. My toes are ticked!
