A Seattle Clothing Swap Meet Tradition!

Good friend and Veteran member Antje organizes the swap meet, and I provide the same cake. Dense chocolate with cream cheese icing. I finished icing it this afternoon so it's ready to go for tomorrow's clothing swap event.

Traditions are as fun as the meet itself :)

Yum! I wish I lived in Seattle!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

I think I'm going to make a spinach and cheese quiche. I'm very excited to see everyone, and to have a piece of your cake! ;)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Ditto, Kari! I'll certainly tuck into your quiche (thanks for making it vegetarian).

    Join us, Natalie.

  • velvetychocolate replied 11 years ago

That looks so delicious Angie! I didn't know about the cake tradition, but I love stuff like that - where people bring things that they're "famous" for. I'm sure you've already figured out that chocolate is one of my very favourite things. :)

Hope you have lots of fun.

Wish I could be there! I will be dressed in a YLF inspired outfit (WHBM jacket a la Natalie and yellow Halogen pencil skirt) and hoping for luck.

    Have fun you guys!

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, cake.

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Oh my gosh, chocolate cake! I am swooning here, wish I could come!

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

    *lick screen*

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Oh, that cake! Too bad I live on the opposite side of the continent...:-(
    Have fun tomorrow!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Oh, I can't wait! But oh no, I haven't had time to make anything...must get busy!

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Happy swapping and eating lol :)

  • Debbie replied 11 years ago

I hope everyone has a gret time! Chocolate cake my favorite!

  • Fruitful replied 11 years ago

Looks like it will be such a fun day! I would be all over this (the cake, the quiche and of course the fantastic meet!) ^_^

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Any time! I'm a big fan of veggie quiches.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Oh, WOW! Cream cheese icing makes everything better. Just one more reason to wish I was there tomorrow!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Wow, as if cute clothes weren't enough, there's cake --- chocolate and cream cheese on top! And before that my favourite kind of quiche... ::sigh:: I *wish* I was in Seattle...!

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

    Mmmmm.....(-:

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Wishing you all a fantastic time!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I love traditions, particularly ones involving food. Have a lovely time at the swap.

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Oh, I wish I could be there too! Angie, you are an ace baker and that looks delicious!

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

I love it that traditions are being built around YLF swap meetings, and what a deliciously fab tradition this is. That cake looks SO good, Angie! I'm loving the sound of that spinach and cheese quiche too, Kari, very much so!

    Have a marvelous time everyone!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Mmmmmm. I wish I lived closer! Have a blast!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Sounds so fun! I wish I still lived in Sattle and could come and hang with you fine ladies!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

We wish that you could ALL join us, but know that you will be there in spirit :)

And on that note - I need to get ready! It's going to be the largest YLF Swap ever.

  • replied 11 years ago

I wonder if they're all there now! Let them eat cake!

  • Greg replied 11 years ago

Angie left with the cake about an hour ago.

She offered to cut me a slice before leaving, but I declined because I wanted the swappers to have a pristine cake.

    I regret that decision now.

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

How kind of you, Greg. I don't think I could have had the willpower to say no!

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

@Greg: Oh how I feel your pain;-)

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Greg, I *think* there may have been some left over, a couple slices - but not much. Hopefully we left you a little! It was absolutely delicious cake.

We had a great swap - and a tremendous turnout! I didn't come away with quite as much as last year but I'm quite pleased with the items I took home. I don't foresee any orphans. And it really made me happy to see items that I loved that didn't quite work on me looking absolutely stunning on others - a lot of my clothing left in other people's bags.

  • Greg replied 11 years ago

Yes! A slice came home for me.

It survived long enough to take this photo, but not much longer.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

    You have admirable willpower!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

So glad that Greg got some cake :)

The Swap was hectic and fabulous. Phew! Lots of people, clothes, food and banter! Antje did an absolutely superb job of organizing the event like she always does :)

    Kari, your quiche was delicious!

Special thanks to Kari and Amy who stayed right till the end to help clean up. You gals rock *big time*.

  • replied 11 years ago

Yummy cake. I can't wait to hear all about the swap meet.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Wow! Sounds like fun! How I wish I could have been there. How many people came? Can't wait to see the swap pics and hear the play by play! Will there be a post on it?

Nice that Greg got a slice of cake after all!

  • Fruitful replied 11 years ago

Thank God your near miss was averted and you got your cake Greg!

I hope we see photos and a blow-by-blow account of the day!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

I can't wait to see more about the swap meet!

If folks would be up for an east coast mid-Atlantic swap meet, I would be happy to host in lovely Annapolis, MD! :-)

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

Wow! That cake looks delicious! Mmmm.

I can't wait to read the blog post! I hope to participate in a swap meet one day... it sounds incredibly fun.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    That's a great idea, Janet.

Marianna, I hope that you attend a YLF swap one day!

Natalie, I think that there were between 30 and 40 people there yesterday.

  • christy replied 11 years ago

I'm SO disappointed I couldn't make it!!! I had a 3-day work conference to attend. Looking forward to hearing more about it and hoping like mad I'll be able to make the next one! :) And really wishing I could have had a piece of that cake - yum!

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

30-40 women and there was one slice of cake left for Greg? That's a swap meet miracle!

I hope this is going to be a blog post, because it sounds like an amazing day.

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

Janet, I am so there! Coming from D.C.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Next time, Christy.

Laura, hope to get a blog post out soon.

  • Chrizzle replied 11 years ago

Wish I could have been there. I was too busy hosting a tamale-making party for 16 adults and 6 kids, more than half of whom I'd never met before. Also, we regularly host international students for anywhere from a month to a year at a time, and our newest student arrived from the Middle East a few hours before our party began. Everything turned out well, and it was great fun, but there were many points in the day when I wished I could just escape to the Swap Meet! Enjoying reading the posts about it today.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Sounds like you had a wonderful time - and the posts of what people came home with are fab so far!

Greg - I'm so glad you got your piece of cake! You must have been on pins and needles waiting to see if a crumb or two made it's way home to you!

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

A "sweet-heart" after my own "sweet-loving" heart! There's nothing like the combination of chocolate and cream cheese frosting, which is simply the best in my book. Chocolate cake with white icing is my FAVORITE combination of all cakes and your photo looks scrumptious, Ms. Fab Baker!

  • replied 11 years ago

Angie, I am making a request to have that cake a few portions larger for next year... A seattle road trip might be in the works... Winking at Vicky ;)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Sounds perfect, Vicky and Zap :)
