OOTD: Scrubbing Dress

We are heading into week 6 of isolation in the State of Washington. Surreal time is flying.....

A glorious warm and sunny Spring day here! It lifts my mood.

This is what I'm wearing today. For at home, and walking Sam. I also walked to the pharmacy to get meds for the dermatitis on the left corner of my mouth. (I had an online virtual dermatologist app this morning which worked well). The dermatitis is nasty and getting worse. Looks like eczema, but isn't. It takes a month to go away. I had the exact same thing last year at this time. It is stress or allergy related. Nobody knows! Oh, well. It will pass and I'm fine :)

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, hair that is harder and harder to style and annoying me, some make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

Soooooo, you might remember that although I clean our loft daily, Friday I SCRUB the loft. So I selected a scrub-the-house outfit this morning:

  • Old floral mesh dress that I adore. It has worn like iron, and looks new. It's very robust. Perfect for cleaning.
  • Old denim jacket - 10 years old! - and a fave. Looks new, I tell you. Excellent quality. Great for outside in the mild weather.
  • Apron and gloves for cleaning.
  • YES. I clean in pearls. It's practical......

I mopped my anxiety away! WOW. Sooo effective!

My spirts are high! Washington's and California's COVID-19's curves are flattening due to very strict measures early. But we have also been at it longer than the East Coast because it started in Seattle. The East Coast will get there too. I'm sure of it. Everyone has to hang in there just a little longer.

I'm feeling strong, calm, energetic, positive, patient and centered. Staying at home all Easter weekend, of course. (That's how we can best help Seattle manage its healthcare system).

It's amazing how living like this has become our new normal. And our next normal will be new too.

Thanks for looking. I'm off to bake, cook, and walk Sam again! Have a lovely weekend. xo

OOTD: My Avant-Garde

This is what I'm wearing today. IN LINE with today's blog post. Wearing exactly what I posted. #authenticstyle

At home. Nowhere to go but walk Sam (...with a mask....but not photographed). No grocery shopping either. We can go another five days, although I've run out of flour. I made a great flourless apple cake yesterday, though. I used whatever I had to grind up as flour. LOVE being creative in the kitchen.

This morning was stressful. My sweet Dad is unwell (it's not the virus, thank goodness). Doctor made a house call ....(they still do that in my Dad's area in the Netherlands). He's doing better. I spent a lot of the morning on calls and texts to carers, his neighbour, the nurse, and my brother. Three countries in the mix, and a time zone difference......and so it goes....

Amidst the stress, I chose today's blog post to dress me. Easy! This is my version of avant-garde. Both the jeans and tunic are COS. I actually have a lot of COS in my wardrobe, but I'm not a COS vibe dresser, IYKWIM. But I keep the look "just structured enough", crisp, and add the pretty - which makes me happy.

I had to choose the sneakers here because I'm at home and wearing at home-only shoes! But in regular life, I'd have chosen my dainty white loafers or ballet flats with this look. Prettier, which is more my jam.

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, hair that is harder and harder to style, make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

It's a LOVELY Spring day. Mild and sunny! Still need a topper and of course, I'm wearing a camisole. But no need for knee-highs or socks. First time this year. WOOOHOOO! Bring on the heat. I even pranced around barefoot for a while.

The dress is four years old. Jeans and jacket are last year. Bag is this year. The bag coverts into a crossbody so fab for walking Sam.

On that note, I'm off to walk and bath our CEO, sanitize, and cook. Thanks for looking. I'm feeling much less stressed this afternoon. Cooking will relax me further.

OOTD: Lemon Squash

(*sorry about the bad quality of the pics - weird light).

This is what I'm wearing today. At home. Nowhere to go but walk Sam. No grocery shopping either (doing that next week). Staying strong, safe, calm, positive, and at home with my boys doing a million and one things. Why am I so busy??? Greg says I need to slow down and relax. Sam has the right idea :)

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, styled hair, and make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

After my early work out this morning, I saw that it would  be a beautiful 18C Spring day. WOOOHOOOO! The nice weather helps a LOT.

I thought: I'm going to wear my favourite white jeans! And combine them with citron and light blue to match the sun and gorgeous blue sky. Hence the outfit was born.

Two toppers. Both light blue. Fuzzy trucker for a cooler morning, and denim jacket for a milder afternoon. Denim jacket is 5 years old. Citron Furla is as old, but refreshed with a new guitar strap. Rest is last season or this season.

**for the record: This is not an outfit I would scrub the house is ;)

Masks are strongly recommended around here, and half the people are wearing them. No matter what I do, I can't get my specs to stop fogging up. Very, very annoying. Sam thinks my mask is annoying too. Gets in the way of kisses. Oh well! I shan't complain about it again. Onward!

Thanks for looking. I'm off to be a busy bee again. I want to make ricotta fritters....

OOTD: Not So Simple Stripes

This is what I'm wearing today. Casual, trendy and preppy. Nowhere to go but walk Sam four times a day. With a mask. Which I forgot to photograph with my outfit.

Work, chores, cleaning, texting, news watching, cooking, checking in on two Dads and others.......and ready to relax in loungewear in a bit.

Spring has sprung in Seattle, and we're having gorgeous weather! I felt like wearing a bright colour today. Shocking, I know......

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, styled hair and make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

I bet you don't notice my pearls anymore. I wear them EVERY DAY. They are part of me.

I LOVE wide crops!

I LOVE stripes!

I LOVE red!

I LOVE sneakers!

I LOVE Sam! And Greg.... :)

I don't enjoy doing yoga in isolation with a laptop nearly as much. I miss the real class setting a lot :(

I don't like how my specs mist up wearing a mask, but don't mind the mask. It's comfortable.

I could do with a haircut since this is week 9, and I have my hair cut every 6 weeks. Oh well! It's only hair. I have a cut scheduled in 6 weeks.

Which bag did I choose with this outfit?

Thanks for looking. Off to walk Sam, sanitize, and vacuum. Easy leftovers for supper tonight.

Stay home, stay strong, stay calm, and stay positive. xo

OOTD: Quietly Loud

This is what I'm wearing at home today. We are in week 5 here in Seattle. Going nowhere. Working, cooking, cleaning, sanitizing, reaching out to others who need support, talking to both Dads, yakking to friends, and am glued to the news. There is no extra time in the day for fun stuff - how unexpected is that?

Walking Sam four times a day - and bonus it's lovely and mild today. A sunny 16C. VERY welcome! This is the first time my sunnies have come out in 2020.

I did my PT exercises Saturday and today.

CEO Sam is on a modelling break as he concentrates on paid playtime and seagull espionage.

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, styled hair and make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

I LOVE these carrot pants! Sooooo fably '80s. Really comfy and "new". Glad I have two pairs - and Greg loves them too.

I combined them with a tight back tucked top and pearls first, but the black top made me feel anxious. Looked good, but didn't feel good, IYKWIM. So I chose a brighter and more playful "fish & chips" shirt. Instantly felt calm.

A denim blazer with a cuff and crossbody with guitar strap are the subtle but louder finishing touches.

We are wearing masks here. We have some disposable ones that will work until we get our fabric ones. I need to knot the elastic to make them fit. Such is life with a small head. They are more comfortable than a scarf. My specs and sunnies mist up with the mask. *sigh*. Oh well. Onward!

Stay home, stay safe, and stay strong. Thanks for looking. xo

OOTD: Scrubbing Twinset

This is what I'm wearing today....to work, cook, do chores, scrub the house, and take Sam on walks. We are committed to staying at home to help Seattle maintain its flattened COVID-19 curve. It's working.

I have a sore back - (injury from a fall four months ago) - AND, was very unmotivated to do my PT exercises this morning. I am sick of their monotony, although they do help. I did not do them. Oh, well. Tomorrow is another day.....

I clean and sanitize our loft home every afternoon. It's calming, controlling, and I find it therapeutic. Every Friday afternoon in isolation, I SCRUB the house extra vigorously. So today was about finding a practical outfit that was scrub-friendly. I chose wide leg jeans and a very old short and fitted twinset. I pop a huge apron over the top and wear gloves as I scrub. The activity actually helped my back feel better!

After yesterday's slim jeans, I was all too happy to wear bottoms with a roomy fit. I have become intolerant of jeans and pants fabric grabbing onto my legs too tightly. Loathe wearing my yoga leggings - (what's new pussy cat? :) ) - but it is what it is. They work best for working out.

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, styled hair and make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories.

YES. I scrub in my pearls.

Two toppers here. Very old leather jacket for the milder part of the day, and an even older coat for the colder part. Casual crossbody.

It will soon be mandatory to wear masks around here. They are impossible to buy at the moment, of course. So I've been walking Sam with a makeshift scarf mask since that's all I have. I can't sew one - no machine - nor do I have hair elastics - or any elastic - to make one. So this is it for now. Greg bought fabric masks so we will hopefully have them soon. Then we can wash and wear clean ones daily.

CEO Sam is keeping a watchful eye on me.

Thanks for looking. I'm off to cook halibut and veggies for supper, and take Sam out again. Have a lovely weekend! xo

OOTD: Fuchsia Sunset

This is what I'm wearing today. At home in Seattle, in our 4th week of the STAY AT HOME order. I'm taking Sam out a few times a day, and grocery shopping every 2 weeks.

I'm glued to the news, and remain calm and in control by amping up news time as opposed to limiting news time. I'm uplifted by the positive stories, and reduced to tears by the mind blowing devastation. It's an ongoing emotional roller coaster.

Pandering to my mood, I needed a simple and strong outfit today. I chose a Boden top and bottom - which feels extra good since the company is doing a great job of supporting the NHS in the UK. The rest of the items followed the colour palette.

It feels odd wearing cropped skinnies now that I'm almost exclusively in wide bottoms. But I love the colour and they fit well, so I'll keep on wearing them.

You may have noticed that I bat for Team Puffy Sleeves....fably '80s!

The usual: Styled hair, make-up, at-home-only-sneakers, knee-highs for warmth, and getting on with the tasks, work, and chores of the day IN my pretty clothes! It empowers me somehow, keeps me positive, and continues to give me hope.

CEO Sam might be done with modelling for a while........he retreated to his scatter cushions after this photo session :)

Thanks for looking. I'm off to make sticky Indonesian date cake. After that I’m vacuuming, sanitizing, and walking Sam. xo

OOTD: Mustard & Ice

This is what I'm wearing today. At home. Nowhere to go but walk Sam four times a day.

Both of our old Dads are very far away. One in Europe and one in Africa. We speak to them daily, and they are in very good spirits despite it all. Inspiring, brave, and amazing men. I'm in awe.

Washington state in the USA - (where Seattle is) - is successfully flattening its COVID 19 curve thanks to excellent local state leadership and early social distancing compliance. I'm hopeful. Today was a better day! I'm calm, positive, energized and productive. I even wore lipstick.

I never plan what I wear unless I travel. I base my outfit entirely on my mood and the weather when I choose it in the morning. Today I wanted to wear a skirt!  So I chose my mustard velvet skirt with matching Boden shirt. Wearing velvet in the Spring - why not? :)

Needed to crisp up the mustard with BLUE because I'm not an earthy gal, although I wear earth tones.

Bonus: My new light blue sneakers have not been outside yet, so I can wear them at home for a while. WOOHOOO! Another pair of AT HOME ONLY shoes.

I am extremely comfortable in this outfit - pantyhose and all! The bias cut skirt MOVES and my top is fluid. I layered a thick Heattech tee under the shirt for warmth. I clean, cook, work, walk Sam, watch tele, and do everything else in this outfit - accept my workout in the early morning which has me in yoga gear.

Two toppers here. The light blue was not warm enough for outside. Chose ten year old navy military coat later. I prefer the light blue! I want a light blue wool coat......post pandemic.

Thanks for looking. xo

OOTD: Rainbow Glitzy Golden Oldies

It was a stressful morning because of stuff I'm trying to sort out with my brother for my Dad - and we are in three different countries! It is what it is.....

So the emotional mood dresser that I am chose a bright and patterned outfit today which - believe it or not - DOES calm me down and make me feel ready for business. I react positively to my happy colours.

Out came the high contrast Boden stripes, glitzy jeans, my favourite bright coat of all time, and Radley London bag (for outside only). I change to outside sneakers for Sam's walks.

All items are between three and six years old. Three cheers for wardrobe golden oldies!

The daily drill for my AT HOME LOOK: shower, styled hair and make-up, an outfit that panders to my feelings when I get dressed, at home only sneakers, and some important accessories. A rare pic of "no specs" because I type without my specs.

I feel strong and in control. We will get through this.

We only go out to walk Sam. Keeping grocery shopping to every two weeks. Absolutely isolating and helping Seattle out as best we can.

Thanks for looking. Off to cook noodles for supper, sanitize, and take Sam out :)
